05-06 636 fork bottoms out

Re: 05-06 636 fork bottoms out
Just grabbed a service manual, looks like stock oil is 5W on the 05/06 and 10W on the 03/04. I love the way my 03/04s felt, so I'm gonna try 10W on the 05/06 forks.

Re: 05-06 636 fork bottoms out
the reason the diffrent weights in 03/04 and 05/06 is because they probly have way diffrent shim stacks, were the 03/04 has less damping and 05/06 more dampning on valving with lower weight oil.
to properly setup your suspension it is best to have a suspension shop rebuild and revalve it. its more money but its worth it.
im having RG3suspension.com help me out with mine. makes a world of diffrence. and the best part is every bike needs a diffrent setup, so they will work with you to continue to fine tune your bike after that.
there is many suspension tuning shops but i know some of you arent gonna want to spend the money on it or ship out your forks an shock (if you live far) but in my opinion nothing beats having custom tuned suspension dialed in for your riding style

Re: 05-06 636 fork bottoms out
thats the same as changing the rate of spring because adding extra oil makes the air chamber smaller in the fork and air compresses but oil doesn't
extra oil =the same feel as stiffer spring
less oil =the same feel as a softer spring
extra oil =the same feel as stiffer spring
less oil =the same feel as a softer spring

Re: 05-06 636 fork bottoms out
sure enough oil was really low on the forks. so i replaced it with 10w and put about 13.2 oz in each fork. Did it myself and its pretty simple. Rode it for a little bit and so far so good, feels pretty stiff and its not bottoming out anymore. Thanks for all the help.

Stock is between 5 and 7.5 Id say, but for sure not 10....I just put 10w Motul in my 05/06 forks and love it! So stiff, not much initial dive, and no ******* way your going to bottom them out anymore.....Takes a bit of getting used to but once I got used to it I like it better...
