tire preference?
So i had been learning to stunt on the stock tread that came with my R6, after i got back from vacation i noticed the wires were starting to break through, so no more riding for a bit, a friend had a used tire (barely used from my understanding) so he gave it to me, put it on and put a good 500 miles on it and that tire still feels REALLY loose, any time I try to clutch it up the tire fish tails like crazy, so I havent been trying to go up on one for atleast a month now, its killing me (although for some reason it seems to work GREAT when im turn banging lol)
the tires are Metzlers ( i cant remember exactly which tire, ill go down to the parking lot a little later)
anyone know if theres certain tires to just stay away from and certain tires that work great for what we do?

Re: tire preference?
free **** is the best. that's what I run
If you have one of those Metzeler Marathon 880 tires though, that's your problem. It's more of a cruiser tire. If you want a good cheap tire to stunt on your best bet is a shinko. That's the cheapest tire that will hook that I can think of. If I can't get my hands on a free tire from work I run the shinkos.

Re: tire preference?
I get free tires where I work in the shop. People come in w/ a nail in their tire and we do not patch or plug tires for customers (liability issue). If they don't want the tire back, I keep it and patch it. If you came to me and wanted a tire I would sell it to you for $20. That's about as close to free as you can get. You never know, someone in your local shop may do the same thing. Just ask.

Re: tire preference?
Plus dealers PAY someone to come pick up there tires.. I know my local dealer pays $3 to throw away each tire.. So they love it when I come and pick up 5 of em

Re: tire preference?
My favorite I have come across so far for the rear is the Maxxis Supermax. Long lasting tire, warms up fast, and grips the road great. Pilot Powers for the front. The 2 tires I really want to try still are the michelin pilot road, and the avon storm. Those 2 I have yet to try but Ive heard great things about them. If you can get free tires those are always great of course, and race takeoffs you can usually get really cheap too.

Re: tire preference?
Manufacturers do recommend that dealers do not sell tires one year after their manufacture date.
With that being said, we have tires that have been on our shelves for 10 years. Don't think we won't sell them if someone wants them.

I used to run Metzelers all the time b/c they were the cheapest good hooking tire I could get my hands on. But, for something that lasts a bit longer the Pilot Road is a good one.
