Re: frame alloy? 6061?

well to update the thread, the frames holding up great. after welding, i checked the frame with a hardness guage, it was weak as possible for aluminum. tossed it in the aluminum heat treat ovens at my work for a 2 hour cycle... brought hardness right back up. when you reheat treat aluminum you must be careful because aluminum can only cycle heat so many times before it loses its hardness forever... but anyway then powdercoated it and now i toss it all over. if you weld an dont heat treat the frame will crack, the weld and the surrounding area will be extremely weakend.

You spent way too much time on a stuntbike! Nice welds and good design though. I plated my 929 frames back in 2004 like this. I didn't heat treat (no access to one) and it was strong as a tank. Before that I cracked 2 frames at the motor mounts. Right side motor mounts suck on 929's for a cage mount location.

T-5 and T-6 and any othjer heat treat pertains to hardness an oven time.
im not sure specs on exact alloy of frame so im not so sure but we have hardness guages, barcol and a webster... i used barcol. completely soft aluminum will register 0-3 maybe... the 6063 we deal with at T-6 would register a 12-14 if i remeber correct.

well after welding the complete front an side es were between 2-5 or maybe 6, the cast part were wingarm pivot is was alil higher. well i put it in heat treatr for 2 hours... so that maybe a hour of the preheat where it warms up at a specific rate, 2 hours at something near 400 degrees. dont remeber exact temp. and then pull it out an let it cool down.
after that it read i think lowest was 11 on the gussets i added on one part but most was 12-13... which is definetly good.

i didnt over beef up ther frame.... just enought to make a diffrence....

HOPEFULLY

hopefully all this **** helps you guys

no way, the extra time i spent doing this, has made my frame a purdy green and hopefully saved me time an money on a frame swap...
i think its worth it on a bike with known weakness's
