coasters........time to try em, tips?

Re: coasters........time to try em, tips?
+1 on the learn on your own. Although a few tips (since I have no one to show me where I live) could help me avoid a crash and possibly progress faster.
Guarantee when you started learning circles you asked for a tip, don't give me that ****.

I got sitdown first and had em in one day.....doing sitdowns you could stay on the bike easier when learning since you'll prolly mousetrap alot....just like above!
once you got the feel for it, its easy!

Re: coasters........time to try em, tips?
I can't do sitdown anything for ****... but I can rock pretty long coasters standing up. Just ride a bp wheelie at a steady speed with no brake and pull in the clutch. If you start to fall forward you know you need to be farther back next time, if you fall back catch yourself easily with the brake. Repeat 1 million times and you will eventually just have a feeling for the coaster bp, or at least that's how I am... I don't think about them much anymore, I just do 'em.

well put thats exactly how I learned. I just road nice 20-30 mph staggered and pulled the clutch in and figured out where I needed to be bye if it dropped or dropped back quick and then I found that point where to pull it inwhere it would float for a bit then drop and softly catch it with the rear brake. its the least dangerous way to learn them to in my opinion.

wrong.. less break! waaaaay less break!pop up the wheelie with almost no break to stabilize it, get it to bp by not braking/leaning back, pull in the clutch behind bp and catch it with the rear brake! smoooooth inputs..

Re: coasters........time to try em, tips?
doing the bp thing and pulling in the clutch is the wrong way to do it.. thats how I did it about 6 times before knowing that was the wrong way.. ya gotta be goin a good pace in 1st.. goose it and pull the clutch in before your even at Bp then as it goes past start edging on the brake lightly. then you dont have to fight anything.. (pressing the brake differently that the clutch is in).. so yeah just throw it back pulling the clutch way before brake and bp.. try it.I assume you have gangster brake skills at this point so it shouldnt be hard.

Re: coasters........time to try em, tips?
i started reading some posts, but im too ADD and in class ... so if i repost info, sue me:
-always use 2nd gear (slipping the clutch back out to ease your way down in 1st gear is WAYYYYY too much engine brake)
-GOOD tire pressure (18+) ... i usually use 22+ .... lower tire pressure = sketchy.
-im not the best at stand ups, but sit downs for me are wicked easy.
-clutch it up, ride it for a few to gain speed, then crank it back behind the bp, slip the clutch and ride it out.
-the sweet spot is O-SO-sweet.
-only use minor brake corrections
MOST IMPORTANT: nothing is a substitute for practice. you can read all day about "how-to", but when it comes down to it you dont have a whole lot of time to think when you're rocking a coaster at 50+ mph gliding above concrete. its one of those tricks you need a "feel" for.
good luck.
