Best dirtbike to convert to stunt bike?

I'm new to the forum, I am selling my roadrace gsxr750 and looking to get a CHEAP stunt bike. I'm thinking the cheapest way to go would be a small 4 stroke dirt bike... feel free to correct me..
Like a TTR 125 or something? whats works best, (looking for low speed stunting) and what would you do to said dirtbike to make it stunt worthy?
Thanks

Whatever dirt bike you want

ttr125 works, crf150f works, whatever is clever

All you need is street tires, and rock it!

So I wouldnt need to change the rim size you think? Also I should probly change the gearing right? Do you guys use those huge rear sprockets? Also how the clutch/rear brake anything special that would need to be done?

Nah don't need to change rim size, only reason people do that is for looks, and the good looking rims cost around $2,000 alone!

Don't need to change gearing at all. On a dirt bike, stock gearing is perfect.. On sport bikes, gearing can help with sloooow wheelies.. But don't re-gear a dirt bike IMO!

I would leave the brake how it is for now. Don't change a THING until you can rock wheelies at balance point as long as you want.. Then look into rigging up a hand brake. How you rig the hand brake will depend on what bike you get.

You can get a EZ pull clutch anytime you want.. You can either get a MSR raptor lever for $40, or you cut the clutch arm coming out of the motor and weld it longer for free (but that requires a welder, and new engine case gasket)

Heres a video of me on my 150f

Re: Best dirtbike to convert to stunt bike?

Any 250 with a flat slide carb, those almost NEVER flood when the bike is vertical.
I have a WR250F for stunting, and a CRF250X, both great stunt bikes, both have flat side carbs.
My XR200R sucks for stunting, its a standard piston type carb, floods very easily, sucks for 12'oclocks, coasters, circles, and any type of long duration wheelie. I have to keep turning the gas on and off while I wheelie, and that sucks.
My XR80 floods too, I have to turn the gas on and off on that as well, still a fun little bike though.

Just gotta get some skills

Keep that throttle wide open, drop the float level, do whatever is needed

Or shut off the gas.

Towlieee? you saying I haven't got skills? LOL
I'm saying why mod your carb, when the flat slide's work perfect for stunting.

I never said you don't have skills.. Your the one bitching about bikes without flat sides sucking for stunting, yet they stunt fine for me and plenty of others

And bikes with flat sides typically cost 6 grand

And you don't 'mod' the carb, you tune it, you adjust it.. Same **** you do when you add and exhaust/after market filter

ok cool thanks for all the info, nice vid on your 150 BTW,
So you think the 125 will have enough power or would a 150 be better? I'm 5'9 and about 160lbs.

Re: Best dirtbike to convert to stunt bike?

i started riding a crf 50 then crf 70 for little over a year now ....i just bought a 600f4i.

i translated the skills from the little bike the safe way to big bikes, after stunting 3-4 months on big bikes iam now rockin circles and everything else besides long stoppies most stunt riders in the area say iam the fastest learner they seen... go to thank the little bikes for this one
check out www.50stunt.com to get all ur parts ..
also check me out at www.dirtysouthstunters.com or check out youtube.com to get ideas.....

p.s. 50's are wayy too little
70's are wayy more fun my opinion!
if u want a clutch get a crf 150

Re: Best dirtbike to convert to stunt bike?

450 is waaay too much $$$, I have a firend who has a 50 with a big bar kit and it's waay to small and uncomfortable, hard to carry wheelies also.

I'm thinkin a 125 or 150 is the way to go. Do you have to clutch up the 125's or can you roll them on?

Re: Best dirtbike to convert to stunt bike?

+1 on getting a 450, i would never stunt anything smaller than a 400.

and supermoto rims (17''s) dont cost $2000, im getting a set soon $700 all i have to do is use my stock hubs.

i was barely able to roll on wheelies with my 250.

$700 is a lot to dump on a set of rims for a toy bike though..

smaller bikes have plenty of power to stunt, don't need a 400+ to stunt..

Re: Best dirtbike to convert to stunt bike?

I have a yz250 that I ride in the woods and MX tracks and a gsxr that I was racing, but just lookng for a cheap, stunt bike, nothing too serious. and the good thing about a 125 or 150 id that I could throw some knobbies on it and the wife could ride it when we do camping/riding trips.

It would defiantely be my 2nd bike, not my primary source of 2 wheeled enjoyment

Re: Best dirtbike to convert to stunt bike?

Man buy a TTR125L (make sure you get the large wheel model with the disc break in the front). My TTR is worth its weight in gold to me. Underpowered, but sooooo light. I can ride in 5th, pull on the bars while giving it a handfull of throttle and the thing stands right up.....and the bike is stock.

You can also add a handbrake by utilizing the rear drum (I posed a writeup in the minibike section of this forum) for about $10-$30.

The TTR's are dead reliable and you won't have any problems with the carbs flooding etc....the only problem is that it pours lots of gas out of the overflow while pulling wheelies....but thats easily fixed by attaching a plastic bottle to it to catch the gas.

Seriously....you will never regret buying a TTR....amazing bikes and cheap to buy too.
