I have an 03, there is a vibration in all Z1000's in the handlebars at around 7k. It happens in every gear if I am correct. You need to fill your handlebars or get aftermarket solid ones. I have heard of sealing the holes and filling it with buckshot.

Re: Whats Worong With My Z1000

The frame on the Z1000 isn't like a normal sportbike. The engine is a stiff member on the frame. I have an 06' and have the same problem... If its any consolation, that is about the easiest bike to find the powerband on any gear I have also heard the make bar end weights...

+1 I've seen em filled with bb's from wal mart. You'll get used to it, or develop a hatred to the numbness.... lol

If the plastics are annoying, try getting rubber washers or a sheet of rubber, and cutting out pads to insulate where they rattle.

The new ones are supposedly better off, but yeah the older ones buzz quite a bit. Awesome bike though.

Are you saying the engine isn't like a normal sport bike, because there are no rubber motor mounts, just bolts solid?

IF so, thats how all sport bikes are.. Solid mounts, no rubber mounts

To be truthful I stole that explanation from an article somewhere that I saw when about to buy the bike. If you look for magazne test ride articles maybe you can find the same thing I did. Im sure its a little clearer. Sorry I dont have a link, but ill look and see what I can find. I just remember it was the main gripe on this bike.

http://www.motorbikestoday.com/revie.../kaw_z1000.htm

It even explains how they fixed it.... although they are speaking of vibration in the clutch lever only. worth a look!

Re: Whats Worong With My Z1000

My Z750 is the same way, as it has the same motor as the Z1000, just sleeved down. There's nothing you can do about it really. But I have heard that weighting the handlebars by filling it with bb's or using heavier bar end weights helps a good bit. One guy said he fixed it by drilling out his motor mounts and putting rubber insulators in. But I would definitely not recommend that because the motor is a stressed component, meaning it's basically a structural part of the frame.
