sprocket advice please

I have an 06' cbr 1000rr and have no trouble getting up but was thinking about re-gearing it.....If i go 2 or 3 up in the back, will I have to buy another chain? what gearing would u advise?? I just wanna be able to do a little slower wheelies......-1 frt and up 2 or 3 in rear? the last bike i bought sprockets for was on old f2 i had when i was younger but it killed the top end bad......so my question is if i just wanted to make it a little easier what gearing would u advise? and what company makes a great sprocket?? I havent bought sprockets in a few years....

Re: sprocket advice please

big sprockets does not = slower wheelies. riding the bike behind balance point will slow your wheelies down not the size of your sprocket. u can usually fit 3 more teeth on a stock chain.

+1

a 1000 is a lot of bike for most people to try and learn to slow it down on.

Re: sprocket advice please

remember to order the proper pitch if ur staying stock. most people who buy aftermarket sprockets with the 1000rr go down to the 520. u should be good with -1, +2, but like sdf said, the bigger sprocket won't really help that much without knowing balance point well.

Re: sprocket advice please

Ive got BP down pretty well from fu*kn around on my fiddy for 3 years......i put the joker bars setup, street tires, scrape bar, handbrake all on that thing and i love it and it taught me alot......rear brake and BP is no problem...Im just curious if I went up 3 on the back if it would really make a difference or if I should just buy a whole front/rear chain setup.....????? I realize that my 1000rr is not a typical "stunt bike" because I pretty much just ride street and do wheelies on highway/back roads.....

Re: sprocket advice please

The 06' CBR is a great wheelie piece since they shortened the swingarm on the 06-07 model. I just bought an 06 and it comes up a lot easier than the R1 I just sold and you can see down the fork tubes a bit better on the sitdown wheelies. I'll probably go -1 on the front of the Double R.

No you must buy a longer chain. About 140 links should do it.

If you don't want it to be a parking lot, and you want to ride highway/street, then why the **** would you re-gear it?

It's a 1000, it'll have no problem poping the wheel up at any speed from 0mph to 130+mph..

Re: sprocket advice please

if you had rear brake and balance point down you wouldnt be on stuntlife asking what sprockets u need to do slower wheelies.. and will it make a difference in what? what are you looking for to be different. when you add teeth to your bike yes it will feel different, will it feel BETTER well we cant tell you that only you can decide that because thats all gearing is, is preference. its not a tool for making you do things u otherwise wouldnt be able to do. any 600, 750, 1000 **** most any bike that has a ****** clutch you can yank up froma dead stop and scrape the tail on stock gears, ride bp on, do idle tricks on. i just dont want u to think ur gonna gear the bike and magicly gonna be able to do some **** u werent already doing.

i have not bashed you what so ever, im doing my best to give you real information that can help you. im not here to fluff your pillows. i dont care how many bikes uve had that doesnt mean u do or dont know anything. i know guys that are murdering **** on their 1st bike and i know guys that are on the 5th bike that still dont know how to change the oil. if u know so much about gearing then u will know that it affects all bikes the same, go up teeth and you will have more torque and more engine breaking. thats what im trying to get you to ask yourself, what do u think youre lacking? what is it about that bike that its not doing that you want it to do? once you answer that question then you can find the answer to what you need for it. and im going to bet its not gears.

Re: sprocket advice please

until you can go a steady 5 miles per hr on stock sprockets...dont even think of gearing the bike... more teeth equals more twitch on the throttle ... i had a 07 1000rr for like 3 months until i sold it ...and it is a street killer...but just like all 1000's it is very twitchy if your throttle hand sucks...and you have no rear brake control....kill it stock
