i have a 05 636...and it smokes til its warmed up...a little oil residue is in the exaughst too..is this bad?? what does this mean?

 

all motors do that. the exhaust is cold and the condensation creates the smoke until the bike is warmed up, you may even sometimes see drops of water coming out the pipe. oil residue? are you saying you think you could be burning oil just from regular stuntin? that sounds kinda unlikely

 

alright.. it just seems a little more dark than usual..but i stuck my finger int eh pipe and it was like black oil on my finger...not carbon residue

 

well if you rev the heck out of it and dont see blue smoke then it beats me

 

im thinking possibly valve seals if it is a thick white smoke untill its warmed up..

 

If it were valve seals it would be burning oil, and more than likely still be smoking after it was warm.

 

seemed possibly because he said there was oil residue in the pipe, the rubber valve seals expand when they get hot so they end up sealing them selfs when warm then contracting again when cold..had this problem on a few cars before its pretty much be the same except no OHC's

 

how much oil did you put in the bike possibly you overfilled it with oil. had a similar problem with my 03 gsxr 600 but it would only smoke during wheelies after about 1 mile riding stand ups, and the oil would fill up in my airbox then it would burn through the exaust i would have a trail of smoke behind my bike on my wheelies, one time it got so bad during wheelie the bike shut off and i couldnt start it back up had to pull spark plugs out because oil was all up in there, but bought a new bike 04 636 and problem solved this bike runs extremely good it kills the old gsxr i had.

 

its the condensation like dave said.

it gets the carbon build up inside the pipe moist.. then you put your finger in it and it seems like black oil because its wet black carbon...


if its blue smoke and does it after its hot youre fucked. so do a rev limiter coaster till it blows up.

 

its bc you didnt mod the gixxer, and you know the 636's will do that too if you dont do the kleen air mod

and for yellow gixxer do you have the clean air mod done?

so im good then huh? im just paranoid after my gixxer blew...

 

if smoke goes out the exhaust with the kleen air mod done its okay its just dumping the extra oil into the exhaust... that shouldnt bother you unless your doing stalls and letting it sit on 12 for a minute

 

i think... but not being there i couldnt tell you for sure.


but IMO if its not smoking while hot and riding it youre fine...
