Damn FI Cage!

So i know FI cages are not the best, but mine is breaking in the really weird place, and its not from crashes, its so strange, none of my other stunt friends have this problem!!

it is breakin on the end of the threaded rod that goes through the engine and is the mount for the struts which attach to the lower loop.

Where the bolt is, and it always does it on the right hand side, this is the 3rd time!

and yes i do tighten my cage before every ride and ive tried different rods and different nuts and it always happens!!

I did have a big crash the other day but the bike went down on the left hand side and the cage held up really good, when i got home i cheaked it all out and tighten it all up and it was fine, but just the other day after i just went for a normal ride i noticed a big noise and it was broken!!

DAMN FI CAGES

I took a picture on my cell phone, i just taped it up so i could limp home

Re: Damn FI Cage!

that side brace could be bent and putting all the stress on the threads and all it takes is a little bump to set it off. just get another side brace from fi

Re: Damn FI Cage!

yeah i got another threaded rod today, i was told that leaving the cage loose will make it break??? not over tighten??

yah if u overtighten a bolt it will weaken it, diff grades of bolts have diff tolerances. i use a torque wrench on my **** to be safe. my engine mounts are like 40ft lbs i think so when i put my cage on i use the same torque specs even though the supplied cage bolts could prob handle more and use the same for the all thread too just as a safe range. yes keep them tight but over tightening will weaken them.

Re: Damn FI Cage!

your best bet is a MXD cage
i had a F.I. and it stripped my motor mounts out alittle... even with constant torque'n down the bolts...
i now have MXD and love it...
and everyone who runs S.I. loves em.. but i hat that ****...
such a bitch to install, jus installed yesterday on a buddies bike...
and i can notice weight diffrence....
feels like i got one of those garbage 905 cages... bahhhhhhhh
MXD... woOo

i didnt make them super tight, im not a big guy as you can see <<<

but i just did them up as tight as i could with a ring spanner, they seem to loosen off after every ride, have to tighten them by half a turn!
