F4I-954 rad mod
puttin' a bike together- thinkin about gettin a 954 radiator and was wondering, i looked at both(f4i,954) and they will definitely bolt up, but i don't see a temp sensor anywhere on the 954 rad pics i've looked at. anyone ever done this mod? or should i just get a stock rad and some engine ice?

Re: F4I-954 rad mod
took me a while, but i just answered my own question. there are two radiators for the 954. one has a temperature switch, and one does not. so get the one with the temp switch if your doin' the mod. that's all.

Re: F4I-954 rad mod
They bolt up but you have to flip the lower bracket. I can't remember which way but the F4i lower mounting bracket goes one way and the 929/954 rads go the other way so you'll need to modify the bracket and get a longer hose to go from the water pump to the lower rad inlet.

Re: F4I-954 rad mod
you know, i do with my 900 and yes, even in ny. you wouldn't know it if you saw it here now but it gets pretty hot here in the summertime. i have'nt really had too much experience with f4i other than riding my buddys a couple times, but i'm building one this year from scratch and i figure if it costs me the same then i might as well overbuild. so u say u'v never heard of f4i overheatin problems?

In 95f+ wether, without my fan on, it VERY quickly hits 230 and stays up there
But once I kick the fan on, it drops to 210 or less and stays there
But I guess I also usually don't hit the lot for more then 30 minutes before I'm kinda burnt on it lol

Never heard of or had a problem with a wired fan

Re: F4I-954 rad mod
And the best way to wire a f4i fan, is the thermal switch works off hte ground.. So if you just ground the thermal switch out it kicks the fan on
but leave the thermal switch still connected, that way if you forget to hit the swtich, ur fan still comes on at 225 or 227 whatever it comes on at :YEAH
i'l goo look in my garage at my bike to see what wire I spliced
edit: ya just add a switch taht connects the frame to the black wire leading into the fan

Definitly good info :YEAH Thats a good idea wiring in the fan to a switch, i may have to do that.
Anyone ever wired the fan straight to the ignition so its always on as long as the key is on? Probably takes forever to warm up like that and may stay to cool i would think.

I have 2 fans... one is regular... the other is on a switch...
No such thing as too cool .
I do think one on all the time is a lil too much drain on the battery... especially if your on idle alot, as the stator dosen't make much charging voltage untill about 5-7k rpms.

Re: F4I-954 rad mod
Only way I would run the fan 24/7 was if you don't run headlights at all..
Even then, it would probably be kinda hard on it running all the time

Got any pics of the two fan setup? Hard to do?
