TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A Florida lawmaker wants to impose harsher punishments on speeding motorcyclists. Rep. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, R-Miami, is proposing some serious penalties for bikers who drive at speeds well over the limit. People caught speeding more than 50 mph over the speed limit or are caught doing stunts on their bikes would forfeit their motorcycle. They would also have their motorcycle license revoked for 10 years and face a mandatory arrest.

Florida's chapter of American Bikers Aiming Toward Education calls the proposal "ridiculous." Some members of the Committee on Infrastructure also have concerns about the punishments. They said they want to take a closer look at the legislation. A committee vote on the proposal has been postponed. Watch Local 6 News for more on this story

i doubt this will happen because as much as residents in florida hate motorcycles, bike week and biketoberfest bring in a substational amount of tourism money so the business owners and greedy politicians are a little more on are side by default
