Re: What Does It Take To Win Comps

It takes:
1. Cutting Aaron Coltons Chain
2. Letting the air out of teach's tires
3. Putting oil all over Bills Front tire
4. And a perfect Run!

Re: What Does It Take To Win Comps

Depends what contest you're at.

XDL: Everything you got.
Others: The lame bs people listed.

I'm all about XDL, skills matter most, not acting like a puppet without skill, but acting like a puppet while showing it. Now ride that bike monkey, ride it!

Re: What Does It Take To Win Comps

i've never competed but the people who seem to go far in this sport are well rounded. a variety. you have to be able to do each and every category and do it well. figure out what the crowd and judges want to see the most and do only that when it comes to the individual freestyle or bonus segments. like if kyle woods is judging you chances are hes not gonna dig circle combos, but if you pull off some sick acros or straight line stuff, then you got his attention ya know. i wouldnt dare enter a competition until i know i am a well rounded rider. for the life of me i cant do stoppies, burnouts, drifting, or acros because i spend all my time doing coasters, circles and straight line combos

Re: What Does It Take To Win Comps

I think that even if you practice until you bleed there are still lessons to be learnt! I speak from experience as the last comp i did not qualify even though i had a varried run and good execution, was doing things others were not and got the crowd a bit riled up too... But my bike and my look were both a pile of **** (as an Irish journo told me after qual "you look like *****, and your bike looks like ***** too ha ha). I think that the appearence is a major consideration after all what are we doing in a comp but being judged and if your turn up to anything in life where you are the one soley being judged then i guess you gotta dress to impress!!

I have a new minty bike now that im building in time for next years uk comps and shows and meet ups etc but here is what i think you need:

Dedication - Like Aaron says, the ability to carry on even when things don't go your way, (fucked bike, new tire, bad weather, **** luck, rubbish skills, physical pain etc) just be patient and learn from your low points as they make you stronger!

Good relationships and respect for your fellow humans, but not sycophantic **** delving!!!!

Above all a massive, massive love for riding a motorbike on one wheel!

Oh and politics! there willl always be people who want you to win and people who don't! and the people who don't aren't always the ones clapping in the crowd!!!

Your presentation is one thing. The way you and your bike look.
You need to be on top of your game in 1.Wheelies 2.Acros 3.burnouts 4.Stoppies 5.Overall 6.Crowd involvement 7.Judge involvement 8.Execution
You need to have at least 5 different tricks in each category. The harder more technical the better!
And the way your run looks when you throw it down!
Like someone else said watch some of the names above in there runs. Thay place in the top for a reason! Also when you compeat after they judge ask the judges what you can do to better your Run/Score. Not all comps are judged the same but i don't think you can go wrong with this.
If i left anything out add to it.
word, get a routine and stick with it know your tricks and execute everytime on time.

Re: What Does It Take To Win Comps

WATCH TEACH'S RUN! HES ENTERTAINING, FAST PACE, NEVER MISSES A BEAT, CONSTANTLY WITH THE FLOW ITS LIKE WATCHING AN EDITED VIDEO OF THE BEST RIDERS AND ITS ALL THROWN TOGETHER FOR HIS 3 MIN RUN. its not always going to be runs like teachs that get 1st place. new styles will develope and old styles die out just as in any sport. JUST DO WHAT YOU DO!!

Re: What Does It Take To Win Comps

arron sounded like he just typed up something for a rocky movie

in order to win you must be foriegn, wear tight pants, and do FIB NH circles along with a stoppie in order to win...i you can do NH or NTH FIB circles for 3 minutes you are screwed..

Re: What Does It Take To Win Comps

best routine i have seen this year is bubash by far... he always has a tight run that is entertaining, technical, and full of style... and his burnouts will bring you to your feet...he has the sickest stand still burnout combos by far...they still amaze no matter how many times a see it. i think all the things mentioned are key factors in comps... but i think everyone that competes has something to offer...even if it is just one bad *** trick in a run...
