video cameras. what do you use?

Hey Im lookin into getting a video camera. Im lookin at the JVC GZ-MG155. Its the hybrid harddrive and SD card .. I can mount a fisheye to it and everything.. got up to 40 hours recording time on 30 GB. What Im worried about is it says it had a protection system on the hard drive saying it will shut down everything if it feels it self droping. has built in accelerometers or something. Im worried this this may shut off in my hand trying to film some crazy ****. any one got a hard drive camera.. does it shut off easily during running or some **** like that. If any one knows it would be cool to know. but other than that.. what do you guys use.. whats hot. what should I be looking at.. the camera Im liking is about 600$. dont realy wanna go any higher cuz I have the ability to smash it to peices and dont wanna spend 1000$ . So put down what youve tested and works good for high action filming.. Thanks -Tim

Re: video cameras. what do you use?

i had a sony HD camera, think i got like 14 hours of footage on a card. I like it since it was small, but using it for editing I thought was a pain. If youre doing just online web clips its not bad, but if youre doing a full length video and taking footage from other people I felt it was kind of a pain. I upgraded to a Sony VX2100 which is a die hard tested and proven camera. B&H has some really good package deals on them. Like I said all depends on what you wanna do with the camera. Id look around for a used sony vx2000 if you can

Yeah that GL2 is a dream camera. but way to expensive. I mean I realy take care of my **** but somthing that expensive is just gonna get broke some how. drunk or sober I will drop **** or others will. so I wanna get some good quality but nothin more than 650.. I found the JVC camera I want on sale on black friday thats 250$ off. So I will probly just pick that up verry early tomorrow. Mabe.. Unless some one talks me out of it or some one has an afordable alternative.

sony HDR-SR1 ....I'm really happy with it... It's In between what you're lookin at ...and the Real nice ****, like the GL2's (it's in that 1000 range )...

You'll get a good camera for 600 or 650 ...

I just was willing to pay extra for some extra bells and whistles (knowing that the last sony I had (DCR-TRV11) was 1000 bucks and lasted like 7 years till it took a ****....( I felt like I really got my moneys worth) .... and I'm hoping for the same kinda luck with this One ....but in Hi Def :YEAH and with a widescreen touch screen....hard drive and SD card etc. blah blah).

BTW...my harddrive hasnt acted stupid yet (like shut itself off or anything) and I've had it for like 6 months now.

good luck and lets see some VIDs !

Good to know about the harddrive not shutting down. Thats was my main concern. running or jumping with the camera and it cutting out.
