denting my tank...tips

Re: denting my tank...tips
I used to just beat mine in! These days I learned a little better. Start slow around the cap straight on and hit it hard but not too hard! (Too hard and you will end up with gas *** later down the line!!!!) I usually use a rubber mallet to start then swith to a lead hammer later once I got the cap beat in! Just go slow, me and a buddy heated ours around the lip where we wanted it to curl on the outside. That seemed to work pretty well, less wrinkle in the metal that way. (Take it off and empty it if your thinking of doing this though!)
Hope that helps, its pretty simple really!

+1 dead blow is the only way to go for this. Also, keep checking your gas cap for fitment and that the parts dont come loose. Ive only seen it once but my friends gas cap rattled apart from the tank being hit and we had to fish them all out! Post pics when your done!

do it the easy way these guys are trying to make it hard for you. don't take the tank off, don't heat it up, don't take the fill cap off. just start around the fill cap denting with a dead blow and work ur way out. 10 min later you are done.

Re: denting my tank...tips
Stomp on it with your foot first to get the initial dent started, use a big *** rubber mallet and beat it till it fits your ***. Did this to mine and it turned out perfect, my first dent too

Re: denting my tank...tips
If you want it minty as hell, buy a new tank, have the top cut off and someone who is good with metal make you a pan to weld onto it. Ive seen some sweet tanks that have gone through this. However if this is your first tank dent, your probably not at the "super stunter" level and your tank will be dented many more times from going down. So jump on it, get a dead blow and go to it.

+1. I did my first tank last week just by reading thread on stuntlife. Its not to purdy but I didnt have alot of time. I couldve made it look better but I wanted to ride. I would say that after the majority of the tent is there, Use a small rubber mallet to work out the small imperfections.
