denting my tank...tips

Re: denting my tank...tips
This was my first dent job. I did it while it was primed and sanded, then had it shot with the paint. Not a DROP of BONDO. I watched the level X kyle woods video. They have a short part on denting your tank. I just took my time, started at the lid and worked my way out. Use your gas cap as a reference point on the angle of your dent. I used a BIG *** dead blow hammer. Like a 7 or 10 pound one? It was massive. But it makes it easier cause you don't have to beat and bang so hard. You can massage the dent out slowly. Its really pretty easy if you just take your time. Check it out...

This could be a dumb question but how much does denting yur tank effect the amount of gas you can put in it. I got a 929, 5 gallon tank, if I dent it in can I still fill it the same?

Re: denting my tank...tips
don't do what i did and fill ur tank completely full and drive a mile to ur buddy's house and decide to dent the tank in. gas will be ******* EVERYWHERE.

Heating it does absolutely NOTHING... i've dented many tanks and tried it a couple of times. You actually don't even need to take the cap off once you get good at it. Last 2 i did were w/ cap and didn't break it
This one was w/ heat... made the paint come off very easy.
Nice Johnny P upper stay.... and tank too :YEAH

Deadblow is a rubber/plastic mallet filled w/ bird shot (bb's) or sand for a harder hit.

you need 2 work on your brake control first before you do anything cuz u arent ready for spreader or HC with handbrake so leave it alone fo now till u get em slow wheelie and stand up coasters.

Yeah... that dent looks a lil too good to be true w/ no bondo... unless it's just the lighting. Could just be he had a shitload of paint sprayed on that area. I've seen the kyle woods instructional YEARS ago too... and i've done at least 25 tanks... never, never have i had one come out like that.

The top shot looks way sicker than the back shot. You can see there is ripple in it, looks damn nice still tho!. But yeah, no bondo at all. The deadblow I used had a head the size of a croquet mallet tho. You don't have as many lil indentions that cause more ripple. And that took me three days to do. I had it empty and off the bike. I'd work the dent a lil each day, and go back and forth on and off the bike test fitting it to my ***. Bye waiting till the next day I didn't go to crazy with the denting. I didn't wanna go overboard. The longer and more careful you are making it, the less you'll have to sweat how shitty a job you did later knowing ya coulda done better with a lil patience.
