2005 Reinforced Subframes!!!!

Soooo! Last night was the slowest i have been on my gixxer...about 8mph...It was great!!! But scraped...ran behind the bike...didnt pull the clutch in...and fell!! First time i had ever scraped and was a second slow on every reaction..Rookie stuff! Heres is my question for 04 05 gixxer riders! I have a FI 12 bar(which was pretty flimsly when i put it on!)...and every time i fall...the subframes get tweeked....or in last nights case...it broke. Will a round bar not tweak your subframe as much...because im sure i will fall again And what are you guys doing to reinforce your subframes...because everyone i know who rides gixxers of that year...breaks their subframe!!! Any help would be awesome...on the upside....Im making progress!!!
And before anyone says it......I know i should have gotten a HONDA!!! Thanks!

Re: 2005 Reinforced Subframes!!!!

round bar will do the same thing.

just reinforce your sub-frame after you have it welded back up if it's still reusable,if not reuseable just reinforce your new one then after you get it all together again, build or buy a sub-cage and tie the passenger pegs to the driver's pegs and it should be good if your not gorrila scrapeing the shiat out of it.

i've also seen people put 03 gsxr 1000 sub-frames on. you need the under tray and the seats also i think. maybe the tail section also but IDK.

Re: 2005 Reinforced Subframes!!!!

Don't pound your bar into the pavement and your sub won't get tweaked or break

Re: 2005 Reinforced Subframes!!!!

After tweaking/breaking 3 I decided to make my own.....You woudnlt use the same technique on a GSXR but basically you need to beef it up...Id weld plate aluminum on the sides Or buy one from scrapeworks or someone else thats making them, at the time I didnt have that option...

Heres mine I made

Re: 2005 Reinforced Subframes!!!!

Scrapped my 05 last weekend a couple times and parked it on the 12 bar. No problems here, but I did snap the bottom rear set weld from the frame when I dropped it from 12.

Re: 2005 Reinforced Subframes!!!!

By the way, anyone ever reweld the little rearset mount to the frame. I guess my question is does it have to be tigged?

Go to post #12. It is almost overkill, but I can tell you from personal experience that you won't be replacing or tweaking anymore subframes!

Re: 2005 Reinforced Subframes!!!!

No problem, I would also suggest buying longer bolts for the subframe so that you can put a nut on the other side. They tend to come loose now and then.

i'm not specifically familiar with the way it's set up on a gixxer subframe but i broke the same part on my f4i, if ur referring to the rear peg mount. i dont know how to weld and a welder wanted to charge me $120 plus he said it would probably be weaker than the original weld because rewelding metal weakens it. well, i drilled two holes in the center part of the rearset mount, then bolted it onto my subframe along with some jb weld. its on there pretty sturdy. i can prolly get pics up here if u need a better idea.

Re: 2005 Reinforced Subframes!!!!

No I meant the front rearset to the actually frame. I thought about running steel stock to the swingarm but I'm worred that it will rock with every bump, any thoughts from anyone?

i broke mine once, i just brought it to a guy who welded a new nub on and tapped it for the bolt. i dont know **** about welding so idk if it was tig welded or not. but in any case it held up fine.
