Re: 2004 636 forks
ok yes the forks have a possibility of breaking but that is only if u dont maintane them they are designed with a set screw and the base of the fork on the inside its a small allen head screw all u have to do is anytime u change ur front tire make sure it is tight and bottomed down. if not the forks and start to thread out when this happens u will notice fork oil leaking out around the base of the lower tube. if u see the oil u can tighten them back up and re tighten the screw but yes they will break if they start to leak. if u can afford it buy some 05-07 forks and sell the 03-04 forks on ebay. u will need the 05-07 rotors and fender if u do tho too. and yes u can use the 03-04 triples and front rim

at the bottoms where the fork feet attach to the tubes, it'll occasionally start to leak down there and when that happens, there is almost nothing you can do. I loosened the allen key on the inside of the leg and used a strap wrench to tighten the tube but it only lasted 2 days before it started to leak again. Now they just sit in my room and leak without even being compressed, they're in a bucket.
Do yourself a favor and build up an 05-06 front end. All you need is the forks, front brake rotors, and a front fender. It'll cost you about 500 beans. I did it to my bike and it had to have been the best mod I've ever done.
A lot of people like to throw on the 05-06 wheels too, but I heard they're really soft and not so good for stunting.. they look pretty baller though.

Re: 2004 636 forks
meak it's not really the set screw that is the problem it is the actuall fork tubes that need to be tightened in to the bottom of the forks and you only have to do it once but like said before if they start leaking then it's too late.....
i checked mine by loosening the set screw and tightening the fork tubes with a strap wrench and a peice of bicycle tube wraped around the fork tube and just an fyi you don't need to take off your forks for this just stick the axle back in the hole so the bottom of the fork doesn't spin while your tightening it
