Building a Cage?

Building a Cage?
The bike I have is a older gsxr (93) and I cant find any company that makes a cage for it. So long story short, I'm gonna end up building my own. I have all the necessary tools to acomplish this, I just was wondering if anybody has built there own themselves? If so, how is it? Any pics? CHEERS!

Re: Building a Cage?
i built one for my r6 just look at some of the pic from the manufactures and then make ur own if you have the tool and you know how to use them it shouldnt be a problem just make sure you connect to the correct bolts on your frame not one that is weak and is connected to your motor goodluck

I'm gonna try and have little to no bends just to make it that much stronger. I'm plannin on getting a new bike soon and if all goes well I'll probably build a custom one for it too. I've looked at alot of the cages some of the companys make and honestly...they are garbage. Some are better than others but I think I could build my own and have it be alot stronger and pay less. If anyone gots any pics of their custom work lets see it!!

A good weld can and usually will strengthen the piece. Unless it is over heated. I've been welding for several years now and know what I am doing. Not tryin to start any problems f.y.i.

I'm getting ready to build too. PLan on coming out with steel cups where the sliders go, then sleeving a frame slider halfway out of the cup to grind down then replace as necessary. I like the race rail setup as well as FI's. All bikes are different and the way a frame on the old gix goes over the motor yours will definetly look unique. Keep it simple and tough. Good luck. Dedfinitly solid welds, and if your using your bike properly they probably will break. LOL.

Re: Building a Cage?
I have a CBR900 of the same year as your GSXR that I have fabbed some race rails for. Took me about 6 hours to make from start to finish, and they work well.
When you're designing the cage make sure you choose the strongest mount points and try to keep the cage's contact patch as close as possible to those points to ensure maximum strength.

Re: Building a Cage?
heres mine
the frame sliders are held in with expanding rubber freeze plus so the soak up alot of the impact
and the cage doesn't go under the bike it is bolted solid on each side so no flex....
