chain pitch question

chain pitch question
ok here's the deal, i was told the chain and sprocket set-up was a 525 on the bike i just bought but he wasnt %100 sure, i wanna change the sprocket so i tried a 530 around part of the sprocket and it seem to fit within the teeth ok, what is the best way to tell what pitch the chain is? im guessing its a 530 because it seemed to fit...? thanks guys

i think the differents between a 525 n 530 is very little and mostly in how wide the links are and what sproket are you comparing it to the rear would be your best bet because the fact you have more teeth to referance it off of...

most people run 520's because they are known for being lighter and having less unsprung weight. this sounds great for racing but i've got a hard on for **** thats durable, bulletproof, and built to last, which is why i run a 530 chain and a solid steel 60 tooth rear sprocket. ironically my bike pulls rediculously strong on idle.
