F4i Getting Hot and doesnt want to start

Re: F4i Getting Hot and doesnt want to start
i would not ride it anymore until you check it out. check the complete cooling system... water pump, t-stat, radiator. does fan turn on? is it blowing white smoke (anti-freeze) from tail pipe?if so you have a bad head gasket. does the oil look "milky" (anti-freeze in oil)? do the spark plugs look real white or have a greenish tint to them? these are also signs of a bad head gasket.i have seen engines that are starting to seize or go bad, turn off when really hot (bearings starting to seize etc) then when cooled off will start again, but when hot (expansion occurs) will shut off or finally blow up!

Re: F4i Getting Hot and doesnt want to start
there was a thread about 636 cooling issues in vegas. this was 3 or 4 days ago. check around for that thread and read in there. tons of people responded with tons of help.
as for your question, we need more details...all bikes get hot so that's a vague statement. you haven't given us a reason why you think it's a head gasket. head gaskets can be blown and it not even overheat....so that doesn't really mean anything.

have you checked your coolant level? a little drop of coolant on a radiator can smell like coolant. make sure your level isn't dropping.
what about the heat, what temps, what are you doing when this temp changes, how long does it take....
also, here is the thread, it's on page 6 of this forum (stunt discussion); it was discussed 4 days ago.

and it's on the 6th page of this forum, go to it, (636 overheat issues). please don't become helpless on us now.....you'll get a lot of answers from that thread. i helped by posting a link, i won't copy and paste the whole thread.

Re: F4i Getting Hot and doesnt want to start
I don't see the head gasket causing it simply not to start once hot. I would assume its more internal then that. The gasket would cause it to heat up quickly, also build a lot of pressure in your coolant system.(meaning your bike will "pee" out of the vent tube).
Here is some questions to help out with the problem though. Does your bike quickly over heat? With in a few min? Once it gets to 240+ will it shut off the bike? When the bike runs does it ran as it always had or seem lagy and slugish? Do you notice any smoke while idle or while riding? All these can help point to a problem. Once the problem is found then we can help find the solution.
Or, change oil/plugs/flush system and run some of the antifreeze options mentioned in the other thread. Then see what happens.

5..me yelling what the ****..
6..go down the back road 6th gear at 5 grand going slow..and its 50 degrees out and bike still 205-225
most of the day its near 225-230

Re: F4i Getting Hot and doesnt want to start
Check your fluid level. Put your fan a switch for all the time with the key, change oil, check thermostat, and flush the system and run one of the coolant options posted in the linked thread. If the problem persists check for clogs in your coolant system including water pump. If that checks out fine then your down to your head gasket. I don't think I missed anything.

Re: F4i Getting Hot and doesnt want to start
That means you have built up pressure from over heating. You are more then likely getting blow-by through the rings. However, it could just be the pressure from the temp you are running at. So try all other cheaper options first.
There should not be any leaking out by the ressy though..check for holes.
