How to tie bikes down thread

I'm looking for a thread that was in here awhile back on how to properly tie down two bikes in the back of a truck bed. I tried the search option but couldn't find it. It was a great thread and I need to find it so if anybody knows about it post up the link. I'm going to Cali pretty soon and I'm gonna bring two bikes back with me and this info would be greatly appreciated.

I dont know what the thread your talkin about said but i always go from the top bed pocket hole to the outside tripples on both bike with the bikes leanin a little tighten the rachets then i take another strap and go between the bikes tripple to tripple and ratchet it down and its should pull them together so there both down tight and even............Did that make anys sense? lol

^^^Same for the rear except use the passenger pegs to keep the back from bouncing around

Re: How to tie bikes down thread

for the rear you can just throw one strap through both wheels to the the hooks. worked for me and that was 2 bikes in the back of a frontier short bed

screw that, those things tear upyour grips gaurenteed..

when i tie my bikes down, i use 4 straps, two on the cage, and two off the back pegs or subcage

never had a bike fall over yet.
and you really dont have to go crazy with the tension, and i dont use wratched straps.

i use this cool high roller ones i got from LP USA. they have a carbeaner (sp?) on one end, and work awesome

Re: How to tie bikes down thread

as long as the front wheel is secure on something, it doesnt really matter how you strap them down. just be carefull not to sinch them down too tight.

canyon dancers are the only way to secure a nice bike. never had a problem with the grips

just my

+1 ^^^^^^

I use 4 and not the ratchet type they suck!
Two on the front triple and two on the back pegs or sub cage!
I used only 2 for a long time but found that when you hook to the rear it puts less strain on your fork seals!
I will hook the two front ones up sort of loose and then hook two up on the rear and pull them tight.
Once you have the rear tight go back and pull on the front to snug up the front, after that you can drive like a nut and your shyt will not move!!
I pull my bikes with a s10 that has hydraulics and rides like a wagon so?
If its good for me then you should be fine?
This will put less force on the fork seals which will save you money!:YEAH

havent had a problem with the cannon dancers. work great for me. also, if you use the ratchet type, dont tie them too tight on youll blow the seals.

Re: How to tie bikes down thread

for 2 bikes i use 3 straps (pull type not ratchet)...i take the bikes and put them all the way against the sides of the bed ...i take a strap from the lower hook and put it to the bars on the bike on the same side..then i take the 3rd strap and hook it between the eyelets on the hooks from the 2 side straps...ive never droppped a bike and my boy hammers exits

ohh to get them tight i stand on the cage when im pullin the straps

Re: How to tie bikes down thread

no advice, just where i went n wat i do, costco got thick ratchets for $24 for 4, hella nice. i only use 2 on my bike. i go behind the forks and loop over the top triple and hook onto that. i put the kickstand down and hook the shift side up with only a few pulls, then the brake side down all the way until its a bit more to the passenger side of the bed then the driver side and tie it down even. it aint so tight to blow fork seals but i swung some donuts in the rain with my truck n my gsxr didn't move

The bikes I'm bringing back with me don't have cages so this makes the most sense to me. I got a Chevy S-10 Extreme so I think this would be the most logical thing to do. I've heard bad things about the Canyon Dancers eating up the grips also so I'll probably just use my ratchet tie downs. Thank you erverybody for your advice.
