Re: F4I chain pitch...

are you guys using master links with your chain conversions?

my 520 conversion kit came with a master link so I used it but I've heard a staked link is way stronger

Since you want to go that route - The proper 520 chains are for bikes up to 1000cc. and have a tensile strenght of about 9,000 lbs. But guess what, many 525 and 530 chains have the same tensile strenght. Stepping up to the strongest 530 for bikes up to 1600cc. (drag race chains) only takes you up to 11,500 lbs tensile strenght.

As for your dirtbike chain - 520 motorcross chains are not the same as 520 street chains.

ok you win, and it wasnt me be being un-educated...throw that comment out the window...dude was asking what chain to use and he got many opinions.

Not busting your education, but you brought up tensile strength - a very important engineering concept, like none of us know what it is.

I just wanted to make sure everyone knows the true charicteristics to the different chains, not people judging because they saw a chain snap once.

I wasn't bashing you, I was telling you that you need to get your facts straight... you weren't spouting off opinion, your opinion was trying to include factual information but that information was false. And as Scott said, 520 chains for DB are different than street bike chains. There are MANY advantages when using a 520 chain including lower operating costs, same reliability, increased hp & decreased weight, etc. So I'm sorry if you felt I was bashing you, but I was busting your ***** about the differences between chain pitches.

And Johnny, this is purely opinion but I DO NOT trust press fit master links. All of my master links are the clip style links, I usually order about 15 or so at the beginning of the season so I have them around. They are dirt cheap and having that clip is an extra bonus.

Re: F4I chain pitch...

525 Is the way to go. No 530 on a 600 Put a good chain on and you will never have any problem.

Re: F4I chain pitch...

Ok for those saying 525, I would just like to ask what is the reason?

If the 520 and 525 have the same tensile strength, are rated safe for 1000cc bikes, are lighter and therefore offer less rotational mass, as well as a decrease in unsprung wieght (these equal a little more power) what is the reason to not run them?
