03-04 636 SI cages

Searched for 5 min and couldnt get ****!! I swear the search function is getting worse.
I've cracked my frame in the front, BOTH sides!! I like the design of SI cages but wanted some input and images. Or if you know a post that already answers my question, let me know.

Re: 03-04 636 SI cages

I love my SI cage. It has taken a beating, and is still in good shape

Also, If youre looking for one, hit me up. I have a buddy that has one he will sell. Brand new never mounted.

quit crashing haha, 636 frames are known for cracking from crashing... have it re-inforced and make sure your cage is allways tight.

Nice
yeah i like the way its curved unlike 905 style on the bottom. So when the bike hits the ground it has more of a chance to slide then dig into the ground, which puts so much force on the engine mounts. thanks for posting the pic.

Re: 03-04 636 SI cages

Someting is wrong if thats happening cause I bet I crash more and harder then most of you and ive never managed to get a crack there....Im on my second frame but the first one I tucked the front when I crashed into a car, and even then it didnt crack like that....Even barrel rolled my bike on the highway after looping out, needed to buy new everything! Subframe, wheels, swingarm, everything except the frame, motor, and MXD cage....I rocked that cage and frame for a full year after that crash...

One thing Ive noticed is alot of people over tighen the engine mount adjuster on the upper right side of the 636 frames. That puts alot of stress on the frame! Not alot of people know that those arent supposed to be that tight, the bolt needs to be tight that sdjuster only needs about 15 ft/lbs...

your telling me. And i blew both forks seals!! Im praying to god, allah whatever that I didnt **** up the bottom of the fork from neglect. Last weekend I crashed cause the bike was boggin' out (maybe cause of the heat 100 F) then I over gassed it....that ****** flew sooooo far. Bent both clip ons almost 90 degree's. Ok im exaggerating, but it bent them aleast 45 degree's. its always something.

are you sure its your fork seals? remember 03/04 forks seperate from the cast part that holds the calipers... and man you crash alot, i'd be happy if all i had was a tiny crack haha

ps: his tank dent was tiny when he met me, i was like you gotta change that buddy and he re-worked it n then i even'd it out for him.

I dont know. I crash pretty hard..lol. But you might have a point. I'll check mine tonight. My partna Mr.Blakk has a 636 too and his is also cracking but he never crashes. Something is stressing the engine mount area. Im really starting to wish I picked up a f4i again.

Re: 03-04 636 SI cages

you have to cut the splash guard out on an 03/04 636 after you dent the tank. Well generally you do it before, but I forgot and waited until mine was already bottomed out before I cut it.

Or you can just drill holes like this one I found, but I like that mine is cut because I can fill up like normal

Yeah im almost sure both are blown. I was coming down kinda hard when learning circles. But i gotta check the bottom ASAP to see if there is warping near the bottom. I heard you can tighten the bottom bolt (the one you can get to when the front axle is off the bike) and it will fix further warping the bottom of the fork tube????////...

I got both cracks welded nicely for $50 from my local welder. And damn if the radiator isnt fucked too. Especially if your streetfighter and coming down hard it will rip the tabs right off the radiator. I even had them re-weld the tabs then the tabs starting pulling up the radiator fins distroying everything. But a little steel wire fixed it for now. I first realized it with fullfairings and my radiator was just sitting in the fairings, not even attached to the bike. Hahahahah.

Denting tanks is seriously an art...no joke.

Oh **** !! good idea. If I was smart I would have checked before smashing the hell out of it. And the hole drilling is a good idea too, except for the metal shavings now in his tank. Thank god for fuel filters.

Re: 03-04 636 SI cages

Instead of drilling holes, I just used a dremel and cut it all the way around, but its the same principle.

I made sure I had an empty tank, and took the fuel pump out before I cut it. Then used an air hose to get most of the shavings, and then splashed some fuel around to get the rest. Im sure there was some left in there, but that was months ago, and I have never had a problem

Tighten the bottom bolt so it wont warp the cast to the inner tube. Im about to do mine tonight.

If yours is smoking that much you probably have way to much oil. Is this from slow wheelies or merking, dragging, etc?? I did the mod to mine so it wont hydro lock, but it still smokes some if I merk it to far back.

Re: 03-04 636 SI cages

the fork tube screws into the casting and theres a lock screw on it, u actualy need to tighten the fork tube into the cast part...

thats a good idea. I was just thinking, if you used a extended magnetic tool to collect the shaving's after drilling that might work too. Im gonna do this, thanks for the tip.
