Shoei or Arai

I currently have an Arai however they have pissed me off. I've broken two side plates switching my visor. Its under warranty and they are going to take care of it. The shop where I bought my helmet from said the one side was too tight and needed adjusted. However their is a back order on the side plates I need till the end of July... They sent me clear ones because I bitched enough. I asked the woman what the deal was and she didnt give me an answer. I told her it sounds like a problem if all of these side plates are on order for a damn month. So I'm going to pick up another lid I still think Arai puts out a great helmet but am considering a Shoei. Any thoughts?

Re: Shoei or Arai

Its comfortable, lite, and breaths really good. Other than the side plates and its noisy I have no complaints. My old HJC was a lot quieter but was heavy and did not breath at all. or fit my head.

Re: Shoei or Arai

if you look into the companies, arai is like one of the only cos that have/test their products in a wind tunnel. Thats why arai breathes so good.

Re: Shoei or Arai

arai is the best helmet u can buy.shoei is huge and your head looks like a huge melon in it! lol learn how to proper put visor on it.the way to do it is both sides at same time.it's all in there instruction dvd that comes with helmets.btw u can rip visor right out of helmet, each side straight out, without pushing anything.I saw manager of cycle gear do it on a brand new helmet.

I have a Shoei RF-1000 right now, but find the Arai more comfortable as well.

Re: Shoei or Arai

I wear a shoei x11 and it's sweet...... I've been through many helmets in the past 25 years.... Most Shoei.... I have a Shoei head....and they fit the best and most comfy ...Straight up.... I've tried on Arai's every time I bought a new helmet.
Arai and Shoe are the best from everything Ive ever heard or read (some like suomy too ...if you got bookoo bucks)
HJC's are good I've got a few of them too ...as spares...and for friends and GF's etc.
I change visors on my x11 regularily (tool less) and have no problems.... also all the shoeis I've had have been great aerodynamically (unlike what someone said about only arai wind tunnel testing...IDK about that) you can turn your head sideways at 100mph and it's VERY Aerodynamic....My friend has something cheaper (i dont remember the Name) but he said when he turns his head at 60 or 70 mph...it wants to rip his head off..LOL

I have friends that wear Arai only...and they have tried on Shoei's ...the Arai always fits their head better ....And Like I said earlier....Shoie always fits my head better.... I think headshape and comfort is very Important....but you are on the right track with choosing between the two ....
Cant your Shop take those backordered parts off of another new helmet for you ?? (And just not sell that helmet for a month till the replacement parts come in ?? ) good luck

I used to have an ICON mainframe, It was an alright helmet, a bit heavy, and in the summer, that thing ******* bakes. Icon needs better breathability, then they'd be a million times better

Arai is the S&^t. Shoei has an easier to open shield.

Re: Shoei or Arai

+1... after 4 or so changes I never break anything on the Arai. I actually have 9 Arais. 5 Quantum and 4 corsair. They rock and have saved my dome twice. Ill never change, but Suomy would be my close second

Re: Shoei or Arai

I have a Shoei and an Arai. I like both. Arai is a little more on the light side and the material is a little softer and nice.

Shoei and Arai are both awesome, but I like Arai a little better.

Here is the New Sinister Helmet i'm gettin for my Bday this week. Really expensive, but sooo nasty.

Re: Shoei or Arai

suomy are the only lids that are batch tested (BSI type A certified) they pull 5% of every production run to testthe helmets , if 1 helmet fails the entire production run is scrapped.
