Front f4i brake sssssttttttttutter!

Stutter seemed like a good word for this

Don't know whats up with my front brakes. When I practice my endos I have to do like 20 of them before my brakes actually feel smooth enough to roll em out.

It feels like they are grabbing letting go and grabbing again really fast kinda like a ssssstttttutttter!

Maybe it's just that they get smoother as they get hotter

And No the rotors aren't bent or warped.

I've been having trouble with this for a while but it starting to bother the hell outta me. Forget doin a decent endo during a show or comp

I don't know if they're stock or what I've never had any experience with aftermarket pads because I always bought stock in the past for other bikes

Do HH pads do this?
How can I tell what kind I have?

Re: Front f4i brake sssssttttttttutter!

do your brakes feel spongy at all? if so, you gotta bleed em.

btw, its usually the opposite...the hotter ur rotor gets, the less braking power ulll have.

p.s. ur avatar looks fake for some reason.

Re: Front f4i brake sssssttttttttutter!

Na they are bled fine. No problem at all with fading it's ike they grab too hard like an "on" "off" feel. Maybe its when they get hot enough to fade a little that's when they feel normal.
I'm not a newbie to endos just not happy with the f4i so far. My last bike was an 05 636 and everything was so great about the front end I guess I'm spoiled but there has to be a fix.

Oh and no my avatar isn't fake. It's a still taken fom my video camera with a wide angle lens. I kinda like it

yea i know exactly what ur talkin bout my buddies gixxer does that same **** , but have no idea how to fix it , but if i had to make a guess i would have to say something wit the pads and that would be the cheapest option , and you can look at the back of the pads and see what namebrand they are

Even though you say you don't, I still believe it could be a wrapped rotor.

The only other possibility would be that your pads need to have a pretty high operation temperature to work and until then they just stutter or squeal. Try to get a pair of OEM pad to compare yours to.

Tire!!!!

Good man. Mines just started doing this and I did notice I could do with some new rubber on the front end.

Re: Front f4i brake sssssttttttttutter!

i have same problem i have brand new tire and my front rotor IS warped i imagine yours is to maybe just not bad enough to see yet!! mine doens't do it all the time just if i hit it just right!! could also be the pads as well with uneven wear now that i think about it.

Re: Front f4i brake sssssttttttttutter!

I haven't gotten a chance to check it again yet, but I just remembered one time I had and eclipse and when I hit the brakes on it it did about the same thing. It ended up being a stuck caliper on one side. I'll have to check em out just in case.

The only thing that makes me wonder about it being a worn tire is that none of my other bikes have done this and I would ride them down to the threads on a front tire. Seems like the new tire would just be a band aid.
Thanks for the input on that tho I will try it anyway.

One other thing is i just remember i broke like 3 bolts off when taking off my rotors one time to paint the rims. they weren't next to each other but I bet that could be some of the problem.
Do any of you have missing rotor bolts?

I'm gonna put some effort into this and find out whats up.

It sucks to say "I can roll a decent endo but wait hold on I gotta do about 25 attempts first"

look for uneven wear on your brakepads.

Re: Front f4i brake sssssttttttttutter!

think I have one missing roter bolt.

On the tire issue. Changin the tire could losen up a sticky caliper which stops teh juddering. So could be a sticky caliper rather than the tire if you know what i mean... there's a thought.

Also last time it happened I hadn't had a drink for 4 hours and got the shakes, maybe that didn't help?

Re: Front f4i brake sssssttttttttutter!

Other possibilities....

check the leading edge of your brake pads.... Spend 20 minutes and pull them and chamfer the edges..(this could very well be the problem ....from what you are describing)

...also...thouroughly clean the Piston walls of the calipers....(while the pads are out .... push the pistons out ...just a little ...like an1/8 inch or 3/16 inch....and clean the piston walls...then push them back in) reassemble the calipers....and bleed the brakes .....I'll bet your problem goes away ....and your brakes feel substantially better.

Also cleaning the piston walls should keep your pads from wearing uneven....If your pads ARE uneven....Get New Pads ...and Do the Piston Wall Cleaning ...... you'll be Set
