i thought altitude didnt do anything to bikes that have EFI (05 R1 must have efi rite?)... like my snowmobile with efi can go up almost anything and be fine cuz of the FI it adjusts itself...

i dont think anyone mentioned this but make sure when you rev it and clutch it that you stay on the throttle till it comes up, dont let go as soon as you pop the clutch, and make sure your tire pressure is about 30 or lower so when you clutch it the tire doesnt spin as easily. and practice some more and try not to eat ****

try clutching it up at 20mph and then 25,30,35... and so on, that helped me. also you really need to rev it, its all about timing and like everyone said SEAT TIME.

Yup, practice and patience is all you need. I 12 o'd my cbr 929rr gettin ahead of myself tryin power wheelies and broke my tail bone and right wrist... So I will agree that control of the rear brake is KEY! lol. Now I have great control in 1st and can not only hold a nice wheelie but can maintain a steady speed to, which is cool. I just power up at about 25mph/3.5rmp (on my bike) and work the brake and throttle and usually maintain a 45-55 mph speed. (knowing the BP is a huge factor in speed control) I can go for blocks but im also ready to move on to faster higher geared wheelies but dont know how to clutch it up, so back to the drawing board I go. So for you, practice, patience, and rear brake. Also, I bought a lil honda cfr100 to destroy learning so if i bailed i would get bumps not breaks and the bike is usually ok, where my 929 cost me almost $3000 to fix when I wrecked. 50cc work good too. (not a bad call if you have the spare $$$)

i think that is where im messing up. when i pull the clutch in i rev then pop the clutch i don't hold the throttle at that rpm. when it does come up(the few times that it has) i get back on the throttle and it comes down softly.

so try standing up. one foot on back peg next covering brake clutch up around 20MPH. (no sit downs?)

just make sure to take video of the crash. i dont know about these guys but the order i learned was power sit downs to figure out how high the bike should get, then clutch up sit downs to get used to clutching it up. then stand up clutching it up. and stand ups will come up a lot easier so be carefull. and i dont know how you really want to stand on your bike. on my r1 the rear peg is a bit to high for me, but i am 6'3. but on my f4i i am fine with a staggarded stance.

oh yea take video of yourself doing it because it helps to see where you are at. at first you will think you are at bp, but when you look at it you are not even close. it is better to see it yourself instead of depending on what your friends tell you.

well the weekend is over and my result were alright. i started out small and worked my way up threw the RPM's. the obly time it came up really good was when i was getting frustrated and gave it a lit of throttle and it got really loud (RPM) and it came up quick as #%ck and scared the hell out of me. my friend was like yo you got it. i told him hell no it came up to quick and he told me it didn't. when he does his sit down it looks smooth as hell. you here his rpms go up some and the bike comes right up smooth as hell. my question is, is it really suppose to get loud like that when you hold in the clutch and rev. also my friend uses the slipping the clutch method he just pull in the clutch and lets it go and it comes up. guess he just does it real smooth and catches the rpms on the way up and i catch them an the way comming down.

Go download a clip or buy a stunt video and listen to the sound the bike makes when you clutch it. When you get the clutch control down in conjunction with your throttle feel then you'll be able to pull it up by just slipping the clutch. Listen to the videos and you'll hear a short "brap". That's all you'll need. Maybe a little more in higher gears, but the concept is the same.

....oh yeah, and don't fixate on your speed. Feel the bike's power. You'll lose focus on the wheelie if you're constantly worried about what speed you're at. If you still have your gauge pod on the bike then put some electrical tape over the speedo to train yourself not to look. Use the f%cking Force if you have to.
