Thumbs down zx6rr overheating missing out

I have an 03 zx6rr and i was stunting it the other day. just doing decent wheelies and endos and then i started riding home and it was missing out bad. i left it running infront of my house for about 15 mintues then came out and there was coolant all over and the bike was overheating. I turned it off and checked all the hoses. nothing was leaking. so i rode it around the neighborhood after it cooled down and still was missing. I took the airbox off and noticed there was oil in the airbox. i know that its caused by endoes and wheelies from the crankcase tube into the airbox. a friend told me it was hydrolocked and told me to take all the sparkplugs out. crank it over a few times. then after cleaning the plugs put them back in. so i did all that and i went to ride off and i noticed my head cover gasket was leaking. also the motor then started to miss out again. I am just wondering what the problem is? It is my first cyclinder missing out. I got engine ice for coolant and that overheating problem is fixed. now i just wnat to fix the missing out. i am going to run that KLEEN airbox system. i orderd a new gasket and 4 new iridium plugs. but any suggestions on what it could be? and also how tight do i tight the head cover bolts?

Re: zx6rr overheating missing out

head cover bolts are about 7 ft lbs.

i would replace the gasket and plugs and see if that helps. chances are it's the oil. clean all that oil out and it should run better. it's probably oil fouling the plugs.

the over heating i don't think would have anything to do with that.....you can't let a bike sit and idle for 15 minutes. it's not good on it and sometimes can cause it to over-heat if it's hot outside. you might want to check to make sure your fan is kicking on properly too. make sure all the normal stuff works fine before changing or trying to "fix" something by upgrades. the bike in stock form is designed not to over-heat if everything is working.

Yes, definitely check that the fan is kicking in. That's how mine was overheating. And by missing out do you mean misfiring??

yup, if the fan is working...run the bike with the rad cap off and check for bubbles in the radator. if you see bubbles, perform a block check.
also feel both rad. hoses...if the lower is hottt and the upper is cold than you have a cooling system prob.(ie:stuck t-stat)

Re: zx6rr overheating missing out

hope its not your headgasket, overheating, missing, coolant leak.... errr sounds kinda like headgasket, if its blowin white smoke out the exhaust thats it for sure. check your compression on the cylinder thats missing if you got none thats a problem, borrow a coolant pressure checker thingie from auto zone and check that your coolant system is pressurizing. and if yo bike is fucted I live in nap ill buy it for cheap ive been lookin for one of those with a blown motor.

+++11111 start by process of elimination, and make sure everything is still hooked up properly..... with these high rpm bikes sh*t likes to loosen up and fall off!

Re: zx6rr overheating missing out

my 03 was always leaking someting coolant, oil, gas, fork fluid. always something.

i hard wired the fan to turn on all the time, and replaced the coolant with race stuff, and swapped the radiator cap with a stiffer one. made a huge differance. bike still runs hot but at least it keeps the fluid inside most of the time

My 036rr NEVER runs hot or has ever had any problems "knock on wood"...good luck with the troubleshooting.

Re: zx6rr overheating missing out

some 636's 03-04 just run hotter than others, i went through 2 stunt bikes before i got the one i have now, all 03-04's, and this on has ran the coolest out of all of them, i can rock a lot for 4 hours straight, 90 degrees out, fan kicks on when it needs to, bike runs great.....just got lucky finally.
