what kind of RR is it? 600's and 1000's have plastic tank covers and most tank bags use magnets.

Food & Money yes. If your driving a street bike 1200 miles beer isn't probably the best thing you can bring.

Re: most hours in the seat...

denver to daytona on a gixxer.... 1800 miles of numb ***.... make sure you take some advils.... stop every other fill up to walk around a grab some water.... stop half way and take a 2-3 hour nap if you need to.... when i did my trip i stopped in nashville and crashed at a buddies house for about 3 hours, made a hella difference in finishing out the trip.... did it exactly the same way back to denver 6 days later.... make sure you have atleast 6 hours of mp3 or you'll wanna' committ suicide very quickly, when i did it in '98 all i had was a ghetto *** walkman so i was surfin' for channels the entire time, in central kansas all you can get is country and farm reports....

Re: most hours in the seat...

definately a rain suit. rode my 929 from terre haute to jacksonville....just over 11 hours in a car. took us about 15 on the bike because of stops. when we hit evansville (2 hours into our trip) we got rained on...spent the rest of the time soaked and then of course ended up being chafed really really bad. every 140 or so miles when you have to fill the tank, walk around and give yourself a little time...makes the trip better.

oh ya, get a throttle lock too so you can rest your right hand sometimes. and earplugs! the wind kills you, even in a helmet.
