01' f4eeezy overheating
Ok so I just hit up the spot and not even 10 minz into 1st gear standups the thing starts to feel like its shittin the bed on me. I look down and my temp is blinking 255 degrees. Its like maybe 65 degrees outside just for reference. Also the red light on the left of the Green NEUTRAL light was on. And the oil Symbol (like a little tea kettle) was blinking. So I turned the bike off and the coolant was bubbling in the overflow and dripping out one of the hoses out the bottom. I fired the bike back up and took it home where it cooled down to 190 degrees by the time i got there.
I just ripped through a bunch of threads and such things were mentioned as a cure to overheating. What do I need to keep this **** cool?
run 5 QTS oil
stuntex oil pickup
Wire fan on PERMINANTLY
Run 2 Fans
run ENGINE ICE
Remove Thermostat
Remove "V" fairing piece near radiator
I think Im definately going to change the oil and run a little over. But is 5 too much? Also what kind of oil is best? I think wiring the fan on perminantly is a win win situation so I'll try and beat that up. Any suggestions for those who have done it where to tap in to a constant power source besides the battery? Sorta killz my buzz that this happened. I didnt really do anything different today then what I usually do when I practice

Re: 01' f4eeezy overheating
was your fan even running?
if your fan wasn't even running at that high of temp then you have a fan issue and just getting the fan to run will work fine.
when i was down in florida on my f4i it was 95 degrees in cape coral and we rocked the lots for hours, my bike stayed about 225 the whole time, fan would kick on and off but the bike never overheated. unless something is wrong, the cooling system should work just fine, especially in 65 degrees.
i'd make sure everything is working fine and up to shape before anything is modified. u might need to just change the oil. sometimes mine runs hotter when the oil is old because it's not lubricating as well.
and 5 quarts is way too much. it only calls for 3.5 quarts. i run 4 quarts and never had the oil light come on, even before i installed my oil pickup.

I will check to make sure fan is in running order. I didnt hear it kicking in when the bike was off and i was turning the key forward into the position where the guages turn on. I thought mayyyybe it had to be running but i didnt stick around long enough to check everything i just booted it home thinking the air rushing into the rad would atleast cool it down. where do I get this ENGINE ICE? Autoparts store or Honda place nearby? Also I wana wire the fan so it will still run automatically but manually/permanently with the flip of a switch.
Oil change is definately happening asap. And I think the bike is going to be in need of a clutch soon too.

Re: 01' f4eeezy overheating
Take the wire off the fan sensor on the radiator and ground it while the ignition is on. Then you´ll see if it kicks in or not. If the fan is OK it will start.
And if you want a switch for it then just connect a wire to the ground and the second wire to the fan sensor. Leave the stock wire as it is.

word man thanks. I just answered some of my own questions. Seen HAI has engine ICE. So check fan, oil Change, maybe engine ice. Its a good start.
Also I'll just ask here rather than make a thread. What length steel Brake lines do I need to replace mine. Front and rear on 01' f4i. They feel like gabbage after i get into using them alot. I seen those goodrich on HAI I think IM guna order them. Do I need crush washers and **** too? Im so n00b it makes even me sick.

Re: 01' f4eeezy overheating
OK so a little bump here. the bike has a few issues. I ran the bike up to 220 degrees and no fan kicked on. I checked the fan fuse and it was blown. I took the wire off the "fan switch" on the radiator and ran a jumper wire from it to ground and with the ignition on the fan kicked on. When I replaced the fan fuse it didnt blow again. Im guessing the fan switch that screws into the radiator is defective and not telling the fan to kick on. Im gunna call up honda shop tomorrow and get this part and hopefully bike will be sweet. Does this sound like a common problem?
Also found out my left front fork is leaking fluid from the seal. sux Do i rebuild it or just buy a fork off ebay or sumthin?

Re: 01' f4eeezy overheating
water boils at 212 50% water 50% anti freeze at 15 psi boils at 265 I think.... soo... if your boiling your COOLANT at 255 then a few things are possibly up, A you are short of anti freeze too much water., b your coolant level is low or c. more likely, you have air in the system effecting pressure and overall efficiency, you might try bleeding your cooling system. oh and 255 is really hot pay attention try and never let that bad boy get over 230 my opinion. def. fix that fan.

Re: 01' f4eeezy overheating
yea I will def. be keeping a better eye on the temp. from now on. But yea can someone clarify if i need a new FAN MOTOR SWITCH or not? I want the fan to kick on by itself and not have to be flipping a toggle on/off and constantly be looking at the temp itll be annoying i can see it now. So I just want it to work on its own.
Ill just say again what is happening. Fan fuse was blown. When I pull wire off fan motor switch and runa wire from that to a GROUND the fan works. But the fan wont kick on with a new fuse and hitting 220's+ sooooo I need to know if motor switch is a common culprit before I spend $44 bux on a new switch.

Re: 01' f4eeezy overheating
Just thought I'd post up incase anyone ever has the same problem and wants to use this for reference that it WAS the fan motor switch that turned into a POS and $44.00 later for a new switch and some more coolant and its back to workin sweet again.
