Re: shifting wheelie?
just curious how you shift in a wheelie at under 4,000 rpms?
So are you cruising along at 3k rpm, then you shift up into the next gear at 1.5k rpm?
I'd imagine anyone making a post wanting to know how to shift in a wheelie, is gonna be shifting at 12,000+
edit: and yes I know its fine to match rpm and shift without the clutch... Im talking about power shifting in a wheelie, there is no matching rpm's, you just jam it into the next gear and hope for the best?? Clutch for me..

Re: shifting wheelie?
You dont have to be at the balance point to shift you just have to do it super fast. I shift all the way to sixth with the clutch no problem you just have to practice shifting fast enough but the closer you are to the balance point the easier it is.

Re: shifting wheelie?
if you actually read my post it says "if you try to power shift at 4k you will break things.i'll shift all the way into 6th in a wheelie AT balance point.let me put it to you like this...if you ever get to a real BP you can use the clutch all day to shift like me somebody asked for relevent info on the wear and tear thru power shifting.
Ok this thread is about shifting in wheelies.
you said its ok to power shift.
So your saying its ok to power shift in wheelies?
Then why do you use the clutch?
All im saying is its NOT ok to power shift in a wheelie.. Sure if you match the rpm's, but I dont think its possible to match rpm's and shift while in a wheelie without the clutch.
and yes I do know where 'real balance point' is... Check my avatar, thats idle at balance point.

Re: shifting wheelie?
pissing contest?
Why does it have to be a contest?
Why can't we just get the right information out there to help people?
Im sure i'l blow a ton of trannys by not shifting in wheelies, and using the clutch when I do shift.

Re: shifting wheelie?
Shifting In A Wheelie Is Fun, But Dont Try It Unless You Got Bp.
Try 1st Through 6th Then Back Down To 1st. For Even More Thrill, Try Neutral From 2nd And Coast.

Re: shifting wheelie?
First off: You are in no danger of flipping when shifting into a higher gear due to the drop in engine revs, duh.
Secondly: Clutchless upshifts cause no serious clutch basket problems, only the downshifts (any racing school will tell you this)
Third: If going from first to second on a cbr 900, you better jam that upshift as hard as you can, the rr is not known for a nice, smooth gearbox
Okay, clutchless shifting-
When the throttle is engaged your clutch plates are meshing with each other (put your hands in front of your face like you're praying, fingertips to the sky)
When you let off the throttle your clutch plates momentarily seperate( still in praying position, good, now clap your hands once)
If you did the stupid little thing with your hands, that one little moment when your hands (remember those are symbollic of your clutch plates) are apart is your moment to upshift.
You don't necessarily need to get back on the throttle to make the shift stick, but you necessarily need to get back on it to stick shifting a wheelie
So everybody can put your two cents back in your pocket and save it for something nice, ok.

Re: shifting wheelie?
and i wouldn't post on this site with that avi. you make burial's photo shop skills look
:YEAH :YEAH
if thats a fact then explain to me why when i was ridding a BP 2nd gear sitdown and shifted clutchless in to 3rd i flew thru bp and and smashed my tail before i had a chance to roll of the gas and tap the break
