lightly use a medium grit with a little bit of gas. then wash it down, and use a 400b-600b wet sand. Thats what i usually use.

They sell spray can plastic primer, and it works wounders. 2 layers sand it, then add base coats. Just wet sand with the 6 hundo each layer to keep it smooth, and TAKE YOUR TIME

BUUUT, for the smoothness youll look for DO NOT DRY SAND IT AT ALLLL

Re: sanding

If It Has A Factory Paint Job,wet Sand It With 400-600.youdont Have To Sand The Paint Off ,just Scuff The Shine Away.if You Do Snd Through The Paint You Need To Primer Those Spots So It Doesn`t Bleed Throughthe Base.

If the rustoleum doesnt come in the color you want, use theres a brand called "high heat" Use that, and then use a clear rustolum coat.. when your dont, if the parts are metal, put em in the oven at like 500 degrees for about 15-25 minutes. Itll harden the paint more, and itll be hard a hell to crack.

I did the same thing on my wife's ninjas covers, used chrome. turned out really well, and did the same thing to make the rim pink.

But, the ferrings, you could try the oven thing, but of course dont do it so hot, lower temp longer time will have the same effect

Re: sanding

Yep yep. When I painted the tank and first set of fairings, my wife thought i took them somewhere else to have painted and pin stripped.

I rule rattle cans. In highschool for my portfollio class, i did a bunch of surf boards and huge peices of plywoods using rattle cans, and pin stripe brushed only. I got a 4.75 out of 5 on it too.
