190 on 180 rim?

a few questions. ive been broke as hell and the only spare tires i have in the garage are 190's. will it fit and how hard would it be to get it on. also if it does fit... how different is riding on em?

Re: 190 on 180 rim?

they fit just fine. they are a little wider and i think they are a little squishy when riding on them, but a lot of people do. I'm pretty sure 600's and 1000's have the same width rim now so the tires will fit fine on the rim.

just as hard to put on as a 180

dont know from a performance point of view

ask some knee draggers or call stealership

Re: 190 on 180 rim?

cool i just need it for a few weeks. i went to all the stealerships in town and no one had any good takeoffs. i figured its time to swap it its been 60 for the past 2 days and i cant resist goin out for some woolies. the tire i have now has a wire patch the size of my palm lol.

and my rim is a little bent should i worry about the beed popping off with the 190 vs a 180?

Re: 190 on 180 rim?

what bike do you have? newer 600's and 1000's have the same width of rim, meaning that it's the same damned rim, the manufacturer just puts a 180 on the smaller bikes to save weight because of the offset in power.

i always use 180's because of weight and size. the larger tire will be wider on the sides and i don't like that, it will allow for more sidewall flex when running low psi. this is not noticed on my mint bikes with recommended PSI in the tires.

put the damned tire on there and forget about it. don't be such a girl about things and just try it. it's 10mm difference. if you were talking like a 180 on a rim that fits a 130 then i would see a reason for concern.

and about the dent in your rim, both tires are 17" and it's a 17" rim, the width won't change the effect of your rim holding air.

Re: 190 on 180 rim?

the liter bikes have a slightly wider rim by .3 inches... that is why they have wider tires, but it will fit on your 600 rim, it will just be a bit taller not wider.

the slimmer rim will make the tire crown a bit better, so it will be like riding on a 185. your turns wont be as crisp and fast, but it will feel more stable. if you are into cornering, it will be harder to rub out your chicken strips on the tire... but still doable.

i have been rocking a 190 on my R6 for 3 months... also learning circs on it. i just put a 180 back on, and i hope i can rotate in better. for higher skilled people, 190-180 is no problem.... but learning you will notice a difference if you swap between the two frequently, like i have.

It'll fit just fine... My bike comes with a 180 and I've put a 200 take off on it.

.3? it's actually .5, half an inch...but that was on the older models. the f4i has a 5.5" rear rim, the honda 1000's (starting with the 98 900rr) run a 6" wide rim. Most litre bikes run a 6" wide rim, as do the new 600's now. My 636 has a 6" rim....same width as my friend chad's 10 does.

about your 01 750, it's a 5.5, but on my 00 750 in my garage i have a 190 on it right now and it's fine.

that sir... is correct i accidentally hit .3, when i meant .5.

my 05R6 has a 5", and my 06R6 has a 5.5.... 180's look dumbass wide on the 06.

180(outside tire size)/55(not sure)/17(inside wheel size) 190 is just the outside of tire

Re: 190 on 180 rim?

Yea man, i had the same question about a month ago. I had been working in my garage and my neighboor came up. Him and like 6 of his friend are hard core racers, and get new tires bi monthly, so i get sets of tires from him forl ike 20 bucks (gas money to bring em to me) and they still have like 60-75% left

180 is the width of the tire in centimeters, 55 is the ratio of sidewall height to width, and 17 is rim size in inches.
