636 no start, no ignition switch, crank no spark!

I have a 03 Kawi 636 I have been putting together after a friends wreck. It came with no ignition. I didnt pull the motor the previous owner did. I got the motor back in and got almost all plugs and ground accounted for. There are some left over connectors for horn, speedo, taillights, turn signals so on. I was told to hot wire it all that was need was to connect the 2 biggest wires from the ingition connecter. I tried that and the bike cranks but wont fire. There is power at the coil packs but no spark. Just wondering if anyone know if the other wires from the ingition switch connector need to be grounded or powered. I have been checking for missing grounds and so on but can find any. I am a little stumped why there would be 12v at both wires on the coil packs and generate no spark. Appears the pcm isnt giving them the needed ground to fire. I am waiting for wiring diagrams to come but I thought I would ask in the mean time. Thanks

hey ,what up whos this ?hey man well, the obvious thing to do is to get a new ignition . But what it sounds like is that you might have the wires you spliced to hot wire it wrong. or it could be your C.D.I ,when that goes so does the spark. If you want to , Just bring it to Bourne we have a shop @ 175 clay pd. Rd. Talk to Evan , I'll be back in a couple weeks . & Were both certified techs. for over 10 yrs. Anyways i would just trace everything back ,but you really need a manual and a meter ,also Try to hook up the speedo to it ,and check for spark again after you get the connections right. / first post , Welcome to SL.

Whoever told you to hot wire it is a dumb *** and doesnt know 636's. you cant hot wire them(or any streetbike 02 and newer for that matter) they have a special diaod(sp) in the ignition to prevent theft. You need a ignition to start it.

Thanks its always hard to find correct info. I will be running down to radio shack today and picking up a 100ohm resistor and a switch. Hopefully it will be running this weekend if I have time. Thanks

you don't have to run the red/blue through a switch, just keep them wired together, and get a really good high amperage switch for the white and brown.

Just realized that I would need to know what wattage 100ohm resistor is needed. Thanks
