12 oclock's for the crippled

OK, some of you killer 12 guys out there, and I know there's a bunch, help me out here. (Not me, a team mate, but all the same):

Team mate of mine has had reconstrutive surgery on his wrist, and as a result, had to have his wrist pinned. He can't bend it at all, all his throttle control is from the elbow. How would you ride a 12 like that? He's been trying them, but he's costing a fortune in bike parts doing it, and too stubborn to ask, so any of you 12'ers out there ever tried to do it without bending your wrist? Stick your arm out straight, make your knuckles level with the back of your arm. Rotate your wrist back about 3/4" and that's where his is pinned at. Any help? Any ideas?

Turn up the idle to like 3 grand and use the brake to fight it. Then you actually won't need any throttle controll. Also try it standing with the left foot on the rear peg- this way he can use his body weight to balance.

Ryan S is a decent person
or you could try to retrofit a four wheeler type of thumb throttle on the bar instead of the twist grip.

OK, we'll we've got to build him an idler. We thought about the thumb throttle thing, but it's on a 929. You know how violent throttle control that would be? I mean, a quad goes from stop to wide open in the sweep of a thumb. THat thing would be like riding a rocket.

Thanks for the help, guys, we'll see what we can get him to do.

WHat if he bends his other elbow at the same time, that would at least keep the weight centered

there's an idle on the 929....that's what i do. I turn mine up to 2500. it's under the left side of the tank.

keeping his weight centered isn't the problem, it's having throttle control. basically, moves his hand forward, and rotates his whoel hand and arm back to throttle up wheelies. After you already know how to do 12's, it's easy, but learning 12's, you've got to have a lot of throttle controllability, and he doesn't have that because of his wrist being screwed. I dunno. We're still working on it.
