even hondas die...

...if an idiot rides 'em...well she's pretty much dead, only good thing was that she died just after I put the front wheel down...so there's no mouse corpses...

it's an '94 900rr, and I can pick up 918 engine (I think '98), so my question is, will it fit? if not, what changes are necessary? I can also get same engine but I guess newer would be better cuz of better oil pick up...

Re: even hondas die...

the engine will fit the frame no prob but youll prob have to put carbs and electrics on as well to get it to run right i had a 98 motor in a 95 frame and was ok allthough i put the whole lot in.

Re: even hondas die...

i dont think you need to do anything for it to work just throw it in.... if you can try to find a later 919 motor.... same motor just fuel injected.... may have to customize your stock airbox a little but its do-able... had a friend back home do it... said it came out alot easier than he thought it woulda been

Re: even hondas die...

The 919 would be a great deal of work, wire harness and the whole nine.
The 918 motor should be a drop in replacement. The 918s lasted a lot longer then the 898 motors.
I ran mine a least a 1/4 qt high on oil and never had a oil related engine problem.

I ran mine half liter to liter over, but didn't make the pickup, I was too lazy...

I think the crank bearings are dead, but will open it up today and see what's up...

@awono: it takes time, practice and skill

Re: even hondas die...

I've been looking for a legit 919 F.I. motor for years, good luck...., the 918 motor will be alot less of a headache to put in if you get the entire harness and ecm with it.

I have a friend that did the 919 swap and LOVED it. I'd love to have an all black 99 900rr with 919 motor..... mmmmmmmm...... I'd sell my 954 for it!

NAGS, let me know if you ever run across a motor. Once in a while I hear of one for sale but I never catch them.

Re: even hondas die...

ya, the 96 and newer 900's are unstopable. 95 and older....junk motors. 98-99 is ideal though, awsome front brakes on those beasts too.
