f4i problem

this just started happening in the last 2 lot sessions on my f4i, if i start the bike and put it in gear immediately afterward it will shut off, and occassionally accelerating it will blip off and back on very quickly.

it doesn't happen every time, it's mostly when the bike is warm, and it's progressively becoming more frequent.

i haven't taken a look at anything yet except the sidestand harness and the rubber part is seperated from the wires, so it may be shorting.

i just replaced spark plugs with oem less than 50 miles ago

try bypassing the kick stand switch and see if that doesn't solve the problem,if not it sounds like you may have a loose wire some where...

Re: f4i problem

to by pass the kick stand switch on most bikes you just splice the two wires together ...

if the bike starts in gear with the kick stand down then you have done it right

if it doesn't start in gear with the kick stand down then try it with the two wires disconnected, one way or the other will work

That's what I thought. I guess I'll try that out for a while and see how that goes.

Which wires do I need to splice to make it so it will start without being in neutral? I don't have the left side control pod which is how it was bypassed before.

Re: f4i problem

f4i wireing harnesses are 2-7 years old, wires are bound to fray after a lot of continuous heating cooling stretching and bending....check all your harneses....ive mousetrapped the **** outa some **** due to craked wires in the sheathing of the wire strands......

check everything.

Re: f4i problem

+1 i rerouted a few of them through the forks because they were getting stretched. Bike cutting out mid wheelie is no fun. No to mention dont wanna burn your insuranceless stunter down lol

Re: f4i problem

i really need someone to show me how to do this correctly, it's not that i'm not willing to try to fix it myself, because i can do most everything myself i just hate messing around with wiring harnesses. if i **** one thing up or overlook one thing it could mean the difference between riding safely or riding a death trap.

Re: f4i problem

I've had friends with f4i's that were cutting out mid wheelie. The problem was a loose ground on the motor. Hope that helps.
