How many master links?

How many master links?
I put on a new front sprocket (-1) and a new chain today. I used my chain breaker to shorten the chain, and put in the master link to test the length. I thought it looked too long so I took out one more link, and tested the fit. It was too short the ends wouldn't meet.
So I went to the local dealership to get a chain stretcher and a wheelie button, but they were both sold out. So I had to settle for getting another master link.
Just wondering how many other people out there have done this I can't be the only one.

Re: How many master links?
Yes I did it was a brand new chain.
The wheel moves???
The wheel was already all the way forward, when I was making the chain. That was probably my problem if I left it in the middle I could have allowed for the shorter length by moving it forward some. Oh well, live and learn

Re: How many master links?
I have 2 master links in my chain. Really one could make a complete chain with just master links and be fine. They are just a strong as a standard link chain. The only thing is they are more more prone to failure because the side links are not fastened as well as a factory chain. As long as they are pressed on good and/or the clip dont fall off you will never have a problem.
