Re: I dont like ICON anymore
I got an Icon helmet last year and after 2 months of using it(never dropped it or wrecked with it)the mouth vent stopped working and all the chrome **** peeled of the vents on top!I've had an hjc for 4or 5 years now and had 0 problems with it.So I hate to say it but I gotta agree as I will not buy another Icon helmet again!

You didn't happen to lcean your helmet with harsh chemicals like windex did you?
One of my friends was bitching about his helmets finish flaking off, while he was sitting there rubbing it down with windex... DOH!

Re: I dont like ICON anymore
technically your completly wrong, helmets are still good untill... 5 years(when the padding begins to deteriorate), or they are involved in a REAL accident.... you cant damage a helmet by dropping it, youll just scuff it up and damage your ego, thats an urban legend. call up H.A.I. or ICON themself you can get a replacement part from either
Do some homework and youll find out real quick that your totally wrong about not being able to damage a helmets shell by just dropping it.

Re: I dont like ICON anymore
WRONG! Helmets are designed to take one impact and spread it over the whole helmet...So one drop big or small and that helemt has been spent! Maybe the shell was damaged maybe not but I dont think you or the helmet manufacture wants to take the risk and find out in a real crash....

Re: I dont like ICON anymore
Your tellin me the founder of ICON told you its ok to drop your helmet and keep using it? Thats pretty wack! Considering ICON doesnt even make their own helmets....Maybe ICON found a way to have their helmets made so that they can be dropped and reused with the same results...That would be pretty amazing considering companies like ARAI and SHOEI that have been makin helmets a hell of a lot longer havent been able too.....
Sure you can drop it and keep using it, its still going to fit and no one is going to stop you from using it...How in the hell are you going to know the shell wasnt damadged, and that it hasnt already done its job and wont do it as effictively again? Do you have Xray vision?
Its pretty common knowledge in the motorcycle industry that helmets are designed to take "one" impact, and spread the load from that impact over the entire shell of the helmet...Just because there isnt a visible crack on the outside of the shell doesnt mean the inside hasnt been damadged....

im in the military and they make us take the motorcycle safety course, one of the things they did during the course was destroy a brand new helmet, they took a ball ping hammer, and hit it, not to hard, but not too soft on the top, then took apart the inside and showed us the padding and the point of impact, the outside still looked new, but the inside was all busted up, it's made for ONE impact, some of us get lucky and even after dropping it afew times, it stills holds up in a real crash like mine, but after that wreck, i dont take anymore chances, so if i drop it, or it starts to get old, im replacing it cause my life is worth more then 280 bucks.
but you can do as you want, i know as well as everyone else that icon would never tell you that its still good to go after a fall, for one thats more money in their pockets , and two, they wont say something like that for liability reasons, cause you never know

Re: I dont like ICON anymore
The one hit issue is IF YOUR HEAD IS IN IT. The EPS liner (the styrofoam looking stuff) inside your helmet is what is used up in one hit. It compresses to absorb energy between the shell and your head and when that happens the helmet is done. A simple drop off a table, your seat, etc is only going to cause cosmetic damage. If a shell could be damaged by that kind of drop it would just disintegrate hitting the ground at 60.
