Question observation at stuntwars

why are all the stunters started to go back to using smaller rear sprockets? they used to use rears almost as big as the wheel and now they look more like they are only 50-55 teeth..are they just going down in the front now or just getting better so they dont need it anymore..thanks for you answers...

Re: observation at stuntwars

hahaha yes alot of people do go down in the front and then they dont tell any one because they think they are cool if they have a smaller sprocket..

but after riding a 06 636 with only -1 front and +3 rear i was amazed at how much low end it still had ,more then my 03 with a 62 rear

You use to want a big rear so you had a lot of engine braking for off the peg tricks, but now with handbrake, you don't really need that. Now they just help give you more low end for doing things like off the peg o's.

Re: observation at stuntwars

no need to go that big..most people have Hand Brakes so they dont need all that Engine brake anymore...not that u need a big sprocket in the 1st place.

(damn inolen beat me to it...lol)

Re: observation at stuntwars

and every one that is at that comp is about 160pounds or lighter and they dont need the extra sprocket to pick up high chairs without picking up to much speed. like me im 220 and i need more gear to clutch up high chairs to do slow stuff like o's. not that i can do highchair o's but eventually i'll be able to but for do high chairs on the street my 56 worked fine on my f4i. if you notice the bigger the person is they most likely have a bigger sprocket. from what i have seen. thats just my opinion so all you haters dont have to post negative to my post! thank you.

Re: observation at stuntwars

i would say that the main reason to gear the bike is to get away from the stalling,if you have gearing you can run low idle and not stall the bike out when you tickle the brake.just my two cents yadaiholla

FIB used to be cool, now is considered stupid. Handbrake used to be cheating, now is cool. Streetfightering used to be cool, now is considered ugly. Sprockets used to be considered cool, now they are not.

People with large mouths decide what is cool and what is not. In 5 years big sprockets will be back in again by the people that have large mouths because everyone else will have followed them to small sprockets.

Re: observation at stuntwars

people should just use what they have, as long as it is working for them. it dosnt matter what size your sprocket is, or if you use a handbrake or not. at the end of the day its all the same stunts. different styles make it fun, thats whats so great about this sport.

Re: observation at stuntwars

There is a common urge to have your stuntbike as stock as possible. Wether it be full fiaring, no handbrake, stock gearing, clip-ons, etc.

Thats because its frustrating when you do a stunt and then someone tries to cut it down by saying "yeah, but thats only on a stunt bike, he couldn't do that on my bike" or "yeah, but so and so does it without a handbrake" Therefore, I think if you can get your bike more stock-ish then do it.

Another factor, is that when you are starting out, you want to increase the learning curve as much as possible and reduce the cost of repairs. So in the begining we ran very modified bikes, and they were raty as ****. Now stunters are weaning themselves off some of the mods and have pretty bikes.
