real easy question.

real easy question.
I was just had 2 quick question about F2's rev limiters & redl line.
I heard someone say they had a rev limiter is this true? If so does the limiter just cut off power right at red line or does the bike have to go a little into redline to kick in?

Re: real easy question.
Man people shouldn't bash people with Ligit questions.
Most the bikes after 94 or so came stock with rev limiters. Most of them work on the ignition. They work by cutting the spark on two of the cyclinders. Most the time the limiter kicks in just after the indicated redline.

Re: real easy question.
well if the rev limiter kicks in at redline than is there something on my bike that could be broke or removed to make it not work? When I bought my bike I accidently brought my bike about 500 rpms into redline in 2ndgear and I looked down, realized how high my rpms were and shifted into 3rd. I did not feel or hear anything different change in the engine at all.

Yeah don't sweat it somtimes it's a little deeper into the redline. These bikes are not time bombs either. Try just running deep enough into the redline in second. It'll bounce off the limiter. I have free reved for a long time off the box. It's not great for them but they won't blow up from limited rev limiter runs.
Or and Thanks Joey D.
Not for the old part.

Re: real easy question.
Thanks guys you were right. I took my f2 out of my garage today and got going in second gear held it a little past redline (redline is 13,000rpms) and around 14,000 rpms it just stoped pulling and lost a little power till I let off.
I just had one more quick question-
If I ride wheelies on it and I keep the RPMs at just under redline, or mabey just hit redline will my bike blow up?
Thanks for all your help.

Re: real easy question.
I had a 1992 f2 and i think i remember the redline on the gauge was 13 to 15,000 on the gauge .
My bike used to stop firing and cut out when the needle swept past the end of the redline area on the gauge(past 15k) .
The rpms would fall , then the bike would kick back in .
On my f2 , the actual power would fall off right before redline , so i would shift up thru the gears as it hit the redline area on the gauge .
After a while you just go buy sound and feel .
If you can find a hp/torque rating graph on a F2 , i believe max hp is at around 12,000 rpm .
If you are riding a wheelie at redline , it sounds like you are doing power wheelies . Why don't you shift up a gear .
Or bring the front wheel up higher .
The higher and longer you hold the rpm , the more engine wear will be on your motor .
So yes , you bouncing off the redline constantly will do damage .
But a bike is meant to rev high .
