making my own cage, help!!!

after i'm done painting my plastics i want to make my own cage.. i have a f4 and i wanted to go with the 3 point design cage.. but i'm not sure how far out to go with my points... does anyone have this cage that could measure the lengths of the cage on the points...or does anyone have any suggestions at how i should attack this

i attempted to make my own cage when i first got into stunting.... more trouble than it was worth, and the cage turned out to be garbage... save yourself the headache and just buy one

Re: making my own cage, help!!!

box tubing is easy to make one with, you wont have to fishmouth it. Make it stick out as far as frame sliders or w.e u want. you have time to kill so you can make one and put it on, kick your bike over and then see if it needs improvement. lol.

Re: making my own cage, help!!!

i have box tubing but i plan on using i think 1" dia. steel and making the 3 points and just welding the braces in the middle... i have access to a few machine shops so if i want to get serious i could " fishmouth " it but i'll probably end up just taking a wizzer to it and putting a radius on the tube

Re: making my own cage, help!!!

sounds like a good idea. so if it ever breaks you can fix it yourself and not have to deal with downtime.

Re: making my own cage, help!!!

I have made 3 different designs for mine and the MXD/Powers design seemed to work the best. Just make sure you get good steel and not some home depot $hit.. I have a style of race railz on mine right now but honestly I am buying a powers in the winter while it is down cause I like there design the best and I'm too lazy to build another.
If you have access to a tig chromemoly is the only way to go!!

Re: making my own cage, help!!!

ya.. my dad welded my 905 for me and i watched him do that.. and he tought me how to weld aluminum and i've been practicing arc welding and i think i could weld my own cage and have it work... i'd rather make my own and spend 5 bucks on welding rod and free piping my dad uses for his buisness. instead of the 215 on the mxd cage

Re: making my own cage, help!!!

I would make the lower point wide enough to keep the pegs off the ground or you're gonna destroy your rearsets......then design the top as well as you can to keep it from rolling over onto the clip-ons.....then be creative! Plasma cut a life-sized picture of your face into sheet metal and weld it onto the open area of the cage! lol
