Yes! I'm so glad to see more of you guys coming around and realizing what it really is that allows us to do these comps: the crowd. Like it or not, that's who we gotta please first & foremost. Through that hopefully we can eventually get things more the way we like them for us over time too.

Nah, no way. Sorry, but I've been there, and there are just as many families & curious people/other bike type fans as there are stunters, every single one I've been to yet. Maybe you mean smaller events or ones that only stunters tend to even hear about, but those don't tend to have tandem anyways. If the event is actually well promoted to the genereal public, I have always seen the majority of the crowd be general populace & general bike enthusiasts. And I know what their response to tandem is, because they come up to ME not you after the performance and give me their reaction. Bottom line, the crowd loves it.

Ok I've finally had enough. It's about time I responded to at least a small sample of the disgustingly large number of ignorant comments that have made up almost half of this thread so far. I've sat back and let everyone be entitled to their selfish opinions, and now you can deal with mine. I just can't believe how many of my own friends that I respected, apparently have little to none for me and what I do. Thanks guys.
Um dude... The risk is *doubled* with tandem. And although that means it doesn't draw as many RIDERS, it draws something more important-- the SPECTATORS.
You know what? You're completely forgetting the core group of people that actually provide the prize money in the first place-- the SPECTATORS. We would not have competitions at all without them, and I guarantee they have a greater appreciation for tandem trickery than they do for fewer events but a higher individual prize instead. Newsflash: it ain't all about you buddy!

For gawds sakes people- if you can do a really really rediculously long coaster or circles til you're blue, then by all means use your own damn individual freestyle time to show us what ya got! Is there any reason why the time alottments could not be increased to allow that possible solution? I'd say that seems rather feasible and far less controversial, wouldn't you? Guess not.

Just as popping a basic wheelie does NOT automatically make you "a stunter," I'll be the first to say I think it's just as lame as anybody else does when a chick truly is acting like a backpack and just hangs on while her partner does a wheelie. Lame. But you know what? Those people know better than to try to show up and compete with the rest of us that truly do some extremely tricky and deadly feats. So I don't appreciate any of you allowing the idea of people like that to drag down the attitude towards what the rare few of us true tandem stunters risk life & limb to achieve, same as any of you.
I'd love to see how well most of you do with an extra +100lbs on the bike, having to balance & coordinate 2 people on the machine instead of having it all to yourself to move around on, and knowing that if any little thing goes bad, it goes REAL BAD. Trusting yourself 100% to another persons skill or with their well-being like that is something I doubt most of you have the guts or the ***** to do. There is absolutely nothing easy about tandem at the competitive level, and it should garner no less respect just for being less common. It is less common because it is that much more difficult & challenging in its own aspects, which truly should gain it all the MORE respect for the few that attempt it. And if you would care to take your heads out of your a$$es and look around, you'd know that tandem is becoming a very rapidly growing category.
It's bad enough that tandem payouts tend to be insultingly low, particularly when that amount is split between two people risking their necks just as much or even more than you, but to suggest that it be taken away entirely so that YOU can have a chance at a little more for yourself ON TOP of the already highest paying category, is just greedy and straight up D1CK. Get over yourselves.

Unfortunately we do not have the best bike for slow circles and bar tricks, it likes to stall under those conditions (Superchicken) but we try to make up for it by innovating way more technical & dangerous manuevers, while rockin a damn near stock, FF bike, only mild sprocket, and best of all, NO HB and NO dragging a foot on the ground!
