gas tank bondo
winters coming and i'm going through my bike and i recently took off all the paint from my tank and i was wondering if anyone that has put bondo on their tank ended up cracking their bondo? would it be better to go with fiberglass?

yeah it chips away but mine wasn't painted and i didn't mix the resin/hardner correct.. and it was hella cheap bondo. and thick. less bondo the better. i could do alot better job now and know it would last alot long.

Re: gas tank bondo
I have a ton of bondo on my tank.
I haven't had any problems yet. I just make sure to prep the surface real well, and took my time doing it. don't glob it on there an inch think, instead be patient and layer it on over time, letting it dry and sanding inbetween each layer.

Re: gas tank bondo
When you uses the bondo make sure you build it up in thin layors and it should not crack . Make sure the surface is clean of paint etc ... Down to the metal ... follow mixing advice on the container you use . You should have no problems . Tip ; use wax paper to smooth out the bondo , makes for less sanding and a smoother finish. remember though, remove the wax paper as the bondo reacts with the hardner and you feel heat from the paper . It will come off no problem ... you may want to look into Mar Glass its a product of Fiberglass . It has fibers in the mix for less chance of cracking ... Use it on the first coat then bondo ---- cheers

any bondo and glaze. mix them both together. ( this reduces/eliminates the amount of pin holes. )
Good primer.
then your set. Seal it then paint.
