I am such a rookie

I am such a rookie
As bad as I, um, *was* at using a camera, I am at least a million times worse at using any form of editing equipment. In fact, even a dvr is somehow getting the best of me. None of the discs I burned so far will open using anything but the dvr I used to burn them. If there is a super obvious reason for this, could someone clue me in, because I am so frustrated right now I feel like giving up. (but I won't)
While shooting it wasn't horribly difficult, it just took some getting used to the equipment and the sport itself, this part *is* horribly difficult.
It doesn't seem like it should be so hard, just getting the good footage to disc and weeding out the bad stuff, but one, my timing is off somehow and I am not learning this as quickly as I picked up on the stuff you guys taught me about your sport. The backup editing just doesn't make sense, it's tedious as heck and I have yet to have a result I am happy with. I hit record and stop at the right point in the tape, but then when I play it back on the one dvr that will play the discs (DAMMIT) it's not started or stopped at the same place. There's stinking delay and I'm somehow just not getting the hang of it.
TG I don't have to do the whole thing on my own, but this part I do have to do on my own, and I am failing right now, which just makes me feel sick. I thought it'd be done by now.
Which apparently is also a rookie mistake.
Any advice, or encouragement is appreciated. I'm just miserable over this.

Get a firewire cable (minidv) and transfer to your computer that way-your camera should have that port-i think i saw it when you showed it to me. What program are you using to edit? I use Sony Vegas 5.0 and its pretty easy yet very very time consuming.

Re: I am such a rookie
I have vegas, but can't use it due to the disc issues.
I guess I do need a firewire, the one I got is the wrong one. So I thought, well I'll just go through the dvr, burn the disc and edit it upstairs...but that has proven to be too much for me.
Looking in to the firewire now...
