03 636 help

i just got rid of my R1 and got an 03 636 for a stunt bike, the R1 felt a little big and twichy so i got the 6. when i first rode it it seemed to be a really weak bike. i don't know if it was just comin from the R1 or what but then it also felt like the clutch was slippin from around 5-9 rpms. i got the clutch plates changed and the pressure plates cleaned and worked. i just got it back today and it is the same. the guy i bought the bike from said that it has always been like that. i was wondering if anyone who has a 636 has had a problem with the clutch or if is just really that weak. gimme some input please.

Re: 03 636 help

oh wow put the bike in 6th gear at 40 mph and give it wide open throttle, if the rpms change and go to 9+k rpm and ur speed barely increases, your clutch is slipping, if not its not slipping.

I wouldnt say that..my 636 runs with most 1000's out there is all in how you ride it...
It might just be the torque that you are missing, coming from the 1000 03-04 636 have been know to have a little "weak spot" in the mid-range, thats why I got an 05

Re: 03 636 help

ok so ur sayin that it might not be the clutch, but i did take it out a little bit ago and was in a higher gear goin around 45 or so and pinned it and it pulled slow until about 6k and then jumped to about 9 or 10k. also i am getting about a 63 tooth, i was wondering what rpms ya'll are at trying some slow but not to slow stuff, on my R1 with a +13 i couls bring it up at about 3k no problem, was wondering if it would b close at all or if the bike still has to be at a really high rpm.

Is your bike all stock besides the gearing?? I have found that a k&n filter, slip-on and a mild tune gets rid of any dead spots, there is a restrictor plate in the exhaust right before it meets the top clamp of the exhaust....its open at higher rpms so that the bike has enough back presure at lower rpms, it think its almost too much, with that gone it give it a much smoother power curve

Re: 03 636 help

yea it's gonna seem weak compared to the r1 ,but the 636 should not seem that weak??????? there must be somthin' up with yours like maybe the front sprocket is down 2. That will kill alot of power.I know it did on mine I prefer to only go down 1 on the front. just my

Re: 03 636 help

it was originally the clutch plates, and then the shop that workked on it completly ****** up the adjustment, but its all good now. took it out for my first real ride and loved it. it is so much lighter than the R1, i rolled a few stoppies that were about 10 feet farther and i could on the R1, i don't know what it is but i like it, got the cage, bar, sprockets. on the way and gonna mount my stabilizer, hand brake this week, but first i gotta take a hammer to that big tank!
