we tried gas but it would not light with a steel bar i think you need Titanium

I've done it with gas and a steel bar many times. It took a few scrapes and I had to pour out alot but it worked. Titanium does work much easier though, try some nitromethane, that's really easy

we put filled a big ballon w/ accetlyne (from a cutting tourch) and tapped it down and drug next to it w/ a titanium bar and that ***** exploded big! Funner is filling huge ballons w/ accetlyne and igniting them w/ roman coundle fire works....no lie...sets of car alarms for like a quarter mile!

Re: trying To light a fire with a 12 scrape, what fliud???

gasoline, and you need alot more of it than you'd think. scraping across a 1 foot line of it doesnt work too well because the sparks are moving and they land past the gasoline. So make like an 8 foot puddle of gas, that'll work.

oh, and the harder you scrape it the bigger the sparks are, so dont use the brake

YO
thats serious business.
Be CAREFUL how you do this, static charge can set the bag off.

NEVER EVER EVER use a garbage bag because static charge will set it off as you filling it.
We did kitchen bags back in the day, we put it in a full size dumpster and used masking tape as a fuse, it blew the seams apart on the dumpster.

Your best bet is filling it remotely with a garden hose.

I had one blow up in my hand within 5 seconds of me filling it from static charge. If it had been 30 seconds later I wouldnt be typing this right now.
Use a cutting mix of acet / oxy to fill the bag

GundamnitPete will become famous soon enough
Re: trying To light a fire with a 12 scrape, what fliud???

acetlyne alone won't blow up super big, but it'll flame up.

putting any oxygen in there is REAL dangerious, and that's what'll make it explode.

also, acetlyne alone will ignite at 15 psi, be careful how full you fill something.

try bolting a magnesium bar to your 12, that should make nice sparks that could ignite it.

Re: trying To light a fire with a 12 scrape, what fliud???

my co-workers said they used to put the ballons into 6 inch steel pipes (really heavy gauge) and stuff the ends with newspaper. It would rattle the sheetmetal warehouses so bad they thought it was gonna collapse haha!

Re: trying To light a fire with a 12 scrape, what fliud???

It'll work woth a steel bar, but don't put too much gas or it'll drown the spark. If it's not working then try taping a screecheroo to the 12 bar, light it then scrape (so it shoots to the ground)... it'll light for sure that way

i gotta try this baloon thing... haloween is coming!

Ithink lighter fluid would light easier.. try puting down some gas and then toss some lighter fluid on top.. might light easier..

the ballons sound bad ***.. ill be trying that

That doesn't make sense

An acetylene torch tank fully charged seems like it would be greater than 15psi , so why don't they blow up .

I think acetylene in a balloon alone would make quite a noise . If you have ever used a acetlylene torch and when you spark it with just the acetylene open , it makes a pretty good pop . And that is flowing out of a tank . Now imagine all that gas trapped in a balloon and lighting it .

Adding oxygen sounds like it would be super cool , but super dangerous .

Can a balloon give a static charge

If they did , you would think people would be blowing themselves up with just helium balloons then

I can understand the garbage bag static charge though .

we were experimenting w/ this last week, i found lighter fluid would not work hell we couldnt even get that **** ti light on the ground w/ a lighter, so gas is the way to go just be cautious on how much you use and how long it sets their before going through it cause the fumes will spread pretty fast you could get cought in the middle of a big ball of fire if not done right. and on the bag **** i had a friend that landed himself in the hospital badly burnt from that. the garbage bag was in the bed of his truck ,he was going somewhere to set it off, but static electricity set it off for him unexpectedly blew the back glass into the cab and caught the inside of the truck on fire and it burnt to the ground he was in the hospital for a few days. just to give you something to think about
