12 O'clock???

Re: 12 O'clock???
It's all about respect son.... Some of you have no respect for the guy's that have been doing this since you were in junior high. I myself am no "O.G." You just give respect were it's due. It would be like changing the name of a tail whip in fmx.....

Re: 12 O'clock???
alright playa. I've been out of school for more than 10 years....calm down with the "son"
it's not disrespect, I have never called "12" anything that isn't close to 12. what about the euros and the aussies? I'm sure they have OG's who might call certain things different names. I'm not here to argue about this with anyone, but times change. that's why we now have handbrakes and new tricks.

Re: 12 O'clock???
I give respect where it is. O.G.'s in the sport deserve it. HOWEVER, if we usteo call a high whelie a 12... it is a thing of the past - moving forward with so many new stunters, 12; IMHO should be as it is just about everywhere else, straight up and down.

You win. Maybe someday about 10 years from now when some new kid you know refers to a trick as something other than what it is called today, it will make sense. I was explaining the "history" of where it came from and why it was called what it was, which you obviously have no clue.....Now go use your handbrake. I'm done with this thread.

You're right. I find myself caring too much about insignificant things. I also understand that my opinion is not gospel and I try not to impose my beliefs too hard because everybody has their own. But, I guess I think back to watching a vhs tape of the guy who named this trick riding "at the balance point" calling it a 12:00 wheelie over and over. For years "rocking a 12 down the road" was not scraping, nor was it parking your bike. When it went wayyyyy back, it was referenced as "going past 12" but that wasn't introduced until Kyle Woods (a little more history for all of you) first sawed off about 4 inches of his tailsection and put a bar that everyone called it 1:00) when he was scraping. So, for about a couple years, a 12 was a 12 when you were riding 25mph down the road, riding the rear brake and not accelerating....A.K.A "rocking a 12." I suppose it would be nice if there was a stunting historybook, but the post in this thread (which is usually what I respond to first) wanted someone to "shed light" on the interpretation of the 12.
Call it what you will. It doesn't matter I suppose. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Re: 12 O'clock???
If someone comes here and disrespects one of the few true old school guys (like you Mr Gorka), that's a line that doesn't need crossing. it wouldn't happen in many other "extreme sports" and ours shouldn't be an exception.
nice history lesson also, I didn't know Kyle Woods did that.

Re: 12 O'clock???
i dont really care who's "old school" or who thinks they deserve respect cuz theyve been riding for a certain amount of years. im not a 15 year old kid, and when i look at a clock the number 12 is straight up at the top, so if some "old schooler" named a 12 after riding a wheelie with his nose pointing at 11 then i would say he's an exagerator and should be corrected. just cuz someone has been riding a bike for a long time doesnt make them immune to being mistaken.
p.s. i dont have a handbrake on my bike for whatever the f*&ck that means???

Re: 12 O'clock???
I think the terms have just evolved to:
a "12 o'clock wheelie" - rolling obviously
and "scraping a 12" - hitting the bar or tail
The "12 bar" was so named because it was the point at which you reached 12 o'clock (on a clock) and would obviously be way beyond the balance point. Most 12 bars were made to be at a 90 degree angle to the bike i.e. 12 on a clock.
So referencing above points, you could ride a 12 o'clock wheelie while having a 12 bar on your bike and not scrape the bar (which would be a seperate trick)
On the name of trick subject, it has always bothered me when I hear people call a christ a "christ air". I beleive that those who use the term "christ air" are from way back before people stepped it up and could now see someone do a christ and then jump up in the air which would warrant the name "christ air". Otherwise its just a christ to me.

Re: 12 O'clock???
ok so scraping = 12? Or being past balance point = 12?
So a week ago I finally started '12in the **** out?"
edit: I stand behind the axels lining up. But I don't know ****. I was thinking I was more just "close" to 12, and not AT 12.
