Serious Question ????????????
I have this friend that stunted his bike out about a year ago after he wrecked it. Since then he obviously took it off insurance and the bike is no longer street legal. Obviously it's the type of bike you throw in the back of the truck to take to a parking lot.
Anyway...he lost his one and only key for the bike and tried to get a key maid, but since he didn't have the title or a registration, they wouldn't make a key for him. Also, the sterring column is locked. So the question is this:
How can he either brake the steering column and put an on/off switch on his bike so he doesn't need a key????? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Anyway, just unbolt the lock tumbler on the neck. It is only bolted to the triple with two star bolts. You just need the right bit size. Put a new key tumbler in. Your done.

And also, when my R1 was returned from the impound, i didnt have a key. I just took the bike down to a shady part of the city where a locksmith was, and he cut me a key in 10 minutes.

^^Call a locksmith! Or pull the ing. switch off and see if there is a number on it and get a key made. Damn the 2 dudes up from me nailed it already!

I think there is some shady areas in New Orleans. He does not have the key code. I'll have him try to unbolt the lock tumbler...I think he tried that, but couldn't do it.
Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Serious Question ????????????
using a on/off switch is easy all you do is swap the wires over to the new switch id draw a diagram but once you get the ignition out you see how simple it is

Re: Serious Question ????????????
Depending on what type of bike it is (I work in parts at a Yamaha/Honda dealer) a shop should be able to order you a new ignition. We don't ask for proof of ownership when something like this is ordered. And I know that Yamaha and Honda don't require it either.
Now I realize this will only get the bike started and the column unlocked, however there is a Lock and Key shop here in my hometown that as long as you have the ignition key, they will retumble the tank. I know, because I had it done on my bike, and I didn't have my title with me. It just looks really sketchy if you don't have any key at all. New ignitions with a key run between 60-70, and it cost me 25 to have my tank retumbled. Just an idea..... the only problem is finding a locksmith in your area willing to do it.
