Garbage Subframe!!!!!

So I was working on combos. I don't scrape, but the bar's there for when I either work on circles, or just happen to go back too far.

Working on combos yesterday, jumped to the seat...brought it back too far and hit the bar. Damn subframe desintegrated. Wasn't a gorrila scrape at all.

For everyone with 04-newer gixxers. RUN THE STEEL FROM THE 12BAR TO THE SUBFRAME MOUNTS.

or you can do what I did.

Re: Garbage Subframe!!!!!

There's already a lot of reinforcing on it. the stock metal broke, it held good til this happened.

Re: Garbage Subframe!!!!!

yeah, if I wasn't so broke, I'd get a 636 or a honduh again. I'm gonna brace it with steel bolted on and hope it works.

You have to make sure all the mount up bolts are always tight. I suggest threadlock em. U don't need to run the 12 bar to the subframe mounts. The triangle shaped holes on each side need to have a plate filled and welded inside of them. Next run an 1/8in steel bar from the passenger pegs to the rearsets on both sides and u should be good.

I already have the bracing between the pass pegs and the triangle filled. The bolts are/were tight. I'm gonna brace the 12bar just to be safe and I'll take your recommendation on the peg-peg thing too.

where to get that 1/8 steel at anyway?

Re: Garbage Subframe!!!!!

you could box and weld, but there are cheaper/quicker methods that work just as well. i went to ace hardward ad spent $20 bucks and did this in just a couple hours..

the reinforcements go all the way to the bar. ive gorrilla scriaped more than id like to admit but works like a champ.

Don't know exactly what stores you have in FL but here in cali and the midwest. Home Depot, Lowes, Mills Fleet Farm. They different thicknesses lengths, sizes, of weldable steel for example 1/8in thick x 1in x 3ftl long that u would purchase for those supports.

I'm going to see if I can drill and bolt the sub back together and see if I can't fab something up like you got going there on mine. looks sturdy

Re: Garbage Subframe!!!!!

wow that sucks. one thing i can say about the kawi that the subframe is pretty strong. I've gorilla scraped the **** out of it and nothing broke. Bolts just get loose that's all but the main frame that's another storry

Re: Garbage Subframe!!!!!

you can make frame supports with allthread rod and roller links off controls off most heavy equipment.you can run them from rear peg
brackets to the lower peg brackets on most bikes.some times you
need spacers and longer bolts. The allthread rod allows you to adjust
tension on sub frame.I have made several sets for guys who have freestyle cages and they love them.
