Rear Brake...

Rear Brake...
Alright...call me squid... but screw it...
so.. I'm at the point where I use a lot of throttle and A LOT of rear brake... I can't scrape consistantly.. and i'm thinking it's because i'm on the brake too hard... and too much...
I rode an f4i last weekend.. and I freaking loved it.. that bike was soo much more forgiving... and Massive engine brake.. I barely was on the rear brake at all..
come back home.. and ride my gixxer again.. and I almost ate **** because it didn't have any engine brake... I'm 1 down and 9 up on the gixxer...
05 600...
now since I realized I gotta use more brake again... my **** was passed boiling point in a matter of 10 mins... if that.... and completely went mushy on me... this is the 3rd time my brakes have gone out on me... the first time it went out... I figured it was the brake pads... they were mirrored like , I think they were double H or something... so I put like ceramic ones on? can't remember what brand, BUT those bad boys went out on me too... and now they get mushy.. and then stiff.. then musy and then nothing at all.. and then back to stiff... it's freaking annoying... I just bought some racing dot4 brake fluid.. haven't replaced it out yet though..
cause... here is my debate... gear it more... so i have engine brake to play with instead... or change to braided brake lines... (in which I've heard good and bad things about changing)
what do you suggest?

Re: Rear Brake...
gear it more! Turn idle up to 2,500-3,000. don't use as much throttle so that you don't have to use as much rear brake. ...and then use your cell phone and call all your friends and ask in person! lol

Re: Rear Brake...
First things first, get a set of stock pads! They last the longest and are most resistant to overheating/glazing over! yes they cost a bit more but ill bet everyone on here will agree with me they are the way to go!
the key is to be SMOOTH on the throttle! gradually work it higher and higher till you need to SCRUB with (NOT JAB AT) the rear brake. its all about being smooth and finding that balance point with throttle and then jsut having the rear brake there IN CASE you go a little too far! (unless you are working on trying roll on idle alone, then you will be on the brake more, but the same principles aply! you are scrubbig with the brake, not stabbing at it!)
Just keep practicng, try to have someone there to give you pointers and it will come!

Re: Rear Brake...
to scrape consistent and clean you need to lear/do coasters if you know them already and manage the brake that way as your planning on scraping sit down or standup you cost in let the bar hit and slide tap the rear or slip the clutch to shift the weight back forward. not to mention the new gixxes got power i never liked min with the 10 up setup. hope this helps

Re: Rear Brake...
if you gear it more its gonna make it a whole lot harder to handle, im geared the same as you on my 750 and im actually going back to stock in the front cuz its soo god damned twitchy. should try using more body positioning maybe to pull yourself back into the idle or b/p.... lean back till you hit the brake then when u get there lean forward and let off the break and youll be using less brake and gas cuz your weight is helping. as for the brakes as far as im aware the stock pads are the best to use cuz they last the longest and have the most progressive feel, i have braided up front cuz my brakes used to drop out on me after a few fast stoppies and it fixed it, i havent had a prob with the rear but i dont see what it would hurt to change it.

Re: Rear Brake...
your gearing sounds good to me i would change to a dot 4 or 5 .....and use less throttel and more idel ?? oh and work on tapping the brake insted of mashing it all the time it worked for me .. (spelling)??

Re: Rear Brake...
I use no idle most of the time, it works for me but I like the engine braking from it. I also tend to stall and mousetrap from it but I haven't worked on the slow stuff like that for a few weeks. I also lowered where my brake lever was, so I wasn't putting any pressure on it like I had been before....it worked for me and may help you if you try it.

Re: Rear Brake...
yeah i heard from honda riders that gixxers are garbage.. hahaha
but I ride with 2 guys that were at the same point as me... both have the same bike.. and slamming on the rear brake.. we were all at a race to scrape first... haha...
one of them is a heavy ******.... and does sitdowns... i know he is on his rear brake just as hard... but now all of a sudden he's practicing no handers... but he's having trouble cause he's not going back far enough and again using too much brake...
they do not have the same problem as me as far as brakes fading... they do however have racing fluid ... i think the boiling point is at 400 with racing... instead of 300 stock?
thanks guys for the advice! glad it wasn't a squid bashing session..

Re: Rear Brake...
steel lines, stock pads and better fluid = no fade ... plus imo you learn to use less brake over time ... few months ago i was always riding the **** out of the brake and have progressively worked on using it less overall ...

Re: Rear Brake...
Get yourself some Motul RBF600 brake fluid it has the highest boiling point for fluid that I can buy at the local shops......Ive boiled many other brands but havent been able to boil this stuff yet, and Ive had it hot enough that the rotor and pads got cooked but the fluid was still fine....
The brake will come with time, I didnt really start to get the feeling of how light you need be with the brake untill I started gettting idle down.....I still eat pads like crazy on the street but Ive got it down in the lots on idle.

Re: Rear Brake...
Definately stick w/ stock pads, way more feel. I just scuff em up w/ sandpaper everynow and then when i change a tire or something, they work great. i just use dot 4 never had a problem boiling it, and i ride the brakes alot
